Windows 10: Unpinning items from taskbar leaves empty slot - is this intended?

Seems really annoying, is there a way around this?This goes away after restarting the PC, but there has to be another way.

Gap between pinned items in Taskbar after unpinning - No auto-shift?

Since a while something strange appeared on my 64bit Windows 22H2 on the TaskBar. I unpinned one of the previously pinned items in the mid of the Taskbar. I expected that all pinned TaskBar shortcuts right of it are automatically shifted one slot to the left. At least at next reboot. But this didn't happen. See attached snapshot (right side only) If I manually drag the shortcuts items one by one to the right it works until I opened a new program window. The shortcut to the window appears now at the rightmost position AFTER The gap. So when I drag a TaskBar shortcut to the left they only switch slots. The last empty slot remains. The gap seems to persist forever. How can I automatically or manually eliminate the gap?

 

Can't unpin items from the taskbar


I can pin items to the taskbar but when I right click on an item I can't unpin. Only had this problem with 10240.

Looks like you are having issue with your taskbar.

We recommend that you unpin all items from your taskbar and see if the issue persists.

Refer to the steps below to unpin apss from the taskbar:

• Right-click on the icon you want to unpin.
• Select Unpin from taskbar.
• Repeat process until all apps are removed.
