Windows 10: Unable to rip CDs or run software from CDs using external CD drive

I have previously been able to rip CDs from my external CD/DVD drive to a USB stick using Windows Media Player Legacy. However, I wanted to rip one CD to my laptop, so I reconfigured my settings to point to a local folder and started the rip. It errored on the first song. I tried a different disk, and that also couldn't be ripped. Then I closed Windows Media Player Legacy and tried to insert a language class CD, and that didn't work, either. We suggest that you perform these steps and check if the issue persists:

• Press "Windows" + "E" button on the keyboard.
• Go to "View > Navigation pane" and select "Show libraries".
• Now in the navigation pane, right-click on the "Music" library under "Libraries" and select "Delete".
• Now right-click on the "Libraries" and select "Restore default libraries".
• Now try to rip.

unable to rip software to Hard Drive cd is damaged

I purchased software called DigitalSender some years ago. I never got round to using it. I have recently moved house and have now decided to try it out to send stuff from my laptop to my tv.

When trying to install the software using the supplied cd I end up with error 1038, there are a few scratches on the cd.

Someone on the internet, suggested copying the cd to my hard drive. I have windows 10 where I have eventually found rip cd but it only applies to music/video and does not see the cd after I load my cd player.

 

Unable to rip a CD in Media Player - "Rip CD" option is greyed out

When I insert an audio CD and open Media Player, the app reads the CD and can play it just fine, but I am unable to rip it - both the Rip CD and Rip Settings buttons are greyed out. Running Windows 11.
