Windows 10: unable to remove exclusion in microsoft defender

I wanted to scan for viruses but I noticed there was an exclusion for exe file types. I didn't add the exclusion so I wanted to remove it.but upon clicking the remove button after selecting the exe exclusion. it doesn't do anything. i.e. it doesn't remove the exclusion and the exclusion remains there despite trying to remove it many times.there is no exclusion visible in the registry.HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows Defender\Exclusionsor in any of the sub folderseven HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows Defender\Exclusions\ExtensionsPlease help.

the exclusion list. It seems that it was added automatically. We suggest that you follow these steps:

• Go to Settings and select Update & security.
• Click Windows Defender.
• Look for Exclusions and select Add an exclusion.
• Navigate to the file, folder, or process, and select Exclude this file.

If the steps provided did not work, we recommend that you boot your device to
Safe Mode and redo the process.

Unable to remove exclusions from window defender settings

What I did:

1. I was able to delete all of them from HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > Policies > Microsoft > Windows Defender > Exclusions > Paths.

2. After performing step 1, I was able to remove them from the window defender settings.
