Windows 10: Unable to change default user folders location from OneDrive to local disk.

Hi, I want to change the location of my user foldersDocuments, Pictures etc... from OneDrive to my local disk. It is now currently set to C:\Users\<username>\OneDrive\<user folder> and I want it to be at C:\Users\<username>\<user folder> . I moved my files from the OneDrive folder to my corresponding user folders but the default location still points to the OneDrive folder.


Any help is appreciated.

No tried that.

Can copy the entire folder to D; but Windows still points to C as the location. Can change personal folders location to a folder on D;, but this still leaves hidden files etc on C;. Thus meaning there are 2 Users folders. Have managed to change the Public folder location to D;, with some registry tweaks, but this doesnt seem to work for the entire folder.

any more suggestions

To assist you better, please provide few details.

1) Are you able to view the contents of the local document folder in your system, not in OneDrive folder?

2) Are you trying to copy the contents from OneDrive folder to local system Document folder?



If the content from your local system Document folder is moved to OneDrive Document folder, then I suggest you to open the Document folder under OneDrive, copy the content and save it in Document folder in the system.



You can also restore the default location of the Document folder, if the location is changed.

To restore the default folder location, follow the below steps.

1) Right click on the Document folder.

2) Select the Properties option.

3) Click on the Location tab.

4) Click on Restore Default button.

Why are folders in PC (Documents, Desktop, ...) located in users/OneDrive folder as default ?

This was a change made by Microsoft approx. 1 year ago, where all user files were automatically backed up to OneDrive by default - which a lot of users do not want . . .

If you do not need or want OneDrive to have those folder backed up by default, then for each of your user profile library folders (Documents, Pictures . . etc.) right click and choose Properties, then on the location tab you can set that location to the old
defaults . . .

For example, documents needs to be changed from C:\Users\YourName\OneDrive\Documents to C:\Users\YourName\Documents

Please be careful to move those to the correct folders . . .
