Windows 10: Touch keyboard opens but closes immediately with maximized windows

Title pretty much sums it up, the on screen touch keyboard will not stay open when the window is maximized, but it the window is just pulled to all corners the keyboard pops up with a touch tap and stays open and available.Ive waited almost a full year dealing with this hoping that the frequent updates would fix it. I've scrubbed my hard drive and started with a fresh windows 10 but the problem ramains. It's extremely irritating to have to stop my work flow so I can get out the keyboard or stop what I'm in the middle of so I can mess with the screen. I have found others online saying the same

Touch keyboard closes immediately in certain maximized apps while taskbar is hidden

I've experienced this issue both on my Windows 10 PC, and on my Windows 11 Surface Pro 7+.

While using certain apps in a maximized window, and ONLY while the taskbar is set to hidden, if I try to open the touch keyboard (aka onscreen virtual keyboard), the keyboard pops up for a second, but almost immediately closes, making it unusable.

Apps that cause this problem include File Explorer, Word, Paint, Mozilla Firefox, and Google Chrome. The problem occurs in both of the following instances: Virtual keyboard opened manually from the task bar, and virtual keyboard opened by tapping a text box with touch input.

Most other apps do not cause this problem, touch keyboard works fine with hidden taskbar in maximized windows using Settings, Device Manager, Edge, Control Panel and more.

I prefer to have the taskbar automatically hidden, especially on a tablet where screen space is already small. However, if I want to use the touch keyboard in many frequently used apps, notably Word, I don't have the option to hide the taskbar.

Is this a bug, or is there a settings fix?

Touch Keyboard Issues after Updates

It is possible that the settings of the touch keyboard is having an issue and that can be the reason why it flickers. As an initial troubleshooting step, we recommend setting up the touch keyboard in "window mode" and change it back to "full screen mode"
to refresh its settings. To do this, follow these steps:

• Access the touch keyboard.
• On the upper left part of the touch keyboard, click the keyboard settings icon.
• On the second row, select the second option.
• Close the access the touch keyboard, and then re-open it.
• Check if it will flicker. If it did not flicker, access the touch keyboard settings icon again.
• On the second row, select the first option.
• Close the access the touch keyboard again, and then re-open it.
• Check if it will flicker.
