Windows 10: Toshiba MQ01ABD100 Hard Drive in DVD Bay Intermittently Not Detected on Laptop

I have a Toshiba MQ01ABD100 hard drive installed in my laptop's DVD drive bay using a caddy adapter. However, the drive behaves inconsistently—it sometimes appears in 'My Computer' and is fully accessible, but other times it disappears and isn't recognized by the system at all. What could be causing this issue, and what steps can I take to troubleshoot or resolve it?

best thin and light laptop with dvd drive?

This laptop is for my mom. She has hard time carrying heavy things so I would like something reasonably light for her. Aesthetic is a second must for her (thin). Last time I checked Acer's timelineX series is reasonably thin and has dvd drive... What are your suggestion?

DVD drive intermittently detected

Ever since updating windows 10 to version 1809 the DVD drive was not being detected at all. After following all the sugestions from help forums the drive (sata) is now detected but intermittently. Each time the computer is switched on it is hit & miss whether
the drive will be detected. This morning the drive was not detected. This afternoon it was and is in use now burning a DVD.

A roll back to version 1803 did not solve the problem even though I had been running version 1803 for months without any problems!

Even a clean install did not help. I suspect this is a Microsoft update problem and hope they resolve it with the next April update. One can only hope!

 

Can't use Toshiba MQ01ABD100 external hard drive with Win 10.

I have a Toshiba MQ01ABD100 external hard drive, that I use to do back up with on my old lap top.

My present lap top comes with preloaded Win 10, and I can't do back up on it, because it is unable to access remote folder.

I also can't open the external hard drive because "parameters are not found".

I have had the device uninstalled, "removed", searched for the latest drivers and re-installed it, but to no avail. It whirls endlessly, and hangs the lap top. I can stop it, or do anything, even shut down, until the
"Cant open" or "Backup failed" pop up appears.

Device Manager indicates that the device is working.

Its a 1TB external hard drive and I have a lot of files and videos in it.

Any way to get around the problem?
