  1. The system detects the DisplayPort -> HDMI adapter as HDMI

The essence of the problem: due to the fact that the HDMI port on my RTX 3060 failed, I had to connect a “DisplayPort -> HDMI” adapter and an HDMI cable from it to the TV. The video is transmitted wonderfully, but the sound is not. I connected it from another device with the same cable to the TV, the sound worked, that is, there are definitely no problems with the cable and the TV. After doing a little research, I found out that for me as well as for some other users DisplayPort is defined as HDMI yes, the cable is really HDMI, but the converter adapter is “DisplayPort -> HDMI”, wh

    Displayport/HDMI Adapter

    HI everyone!

I have a Thinkpad T420 and recently i bought a Displayport-HDMI Adapter for it so i can i connect it to my TV.

But it turns out that although the video is connected and clear the audio still plays on laptop instead of TV. And also that the TV shows ''DVI'' connected instead of HDMI which i assume is the problem.

Please do suggest any solution as quickly as possible.

    Thanks in advance.

    DisplayPort vs. HDMI?

To achieve the best video quality when connecting your PC to a LED television, I recommend considering the following options:

    1. HDMI Connection: HDMI provides high-quality digital video and audio transmission. If your LED TV has an HDMI input, and your PC has a DisplayPort output, you can use a DisplayPort to HDMI cable or adapter to connect them. This should offer better picture quality compared to using a VGA cable.
    2. DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter: If your PC has a DisplayPort output but lacks an HDMI port, you can use a DisplayPort to HDMI adapter. This allows you to connect an HDMI cable directly from the adapter to the HDMI input on your TV. This method should also provide good picture quality.
    3. Upgrading Graphics Card: If your PC's video card or graphics circuitry is older or low-end, it may be limiting the quality of the video output. In such cases, upgrading to a more capable graphics card could improve the video quality when connected to your TV.
When connecting your PC to the TV, ensure that you adjust the display settings on your PC to match the optimal resolution and aspect ratio supported by your TV. This will help ensure the best possible picture quality.

Additionally, keep in mind that video quality can also depend on the resolution and quality of the video source itself. If you're streaming videos from YouTube, make sure to select the highest available resolution for the best viewing experience.

By using an HDMI connection or upgrading your graphics card, you should be able to achieve improved video quality when connecting your PC to your LED television. Enjoy your documentaries on the bigger screen!
