Stop Microsoft Windows Search Protocol Host from indexing network

How do I control which network shares get indexed by Windows Search Protocol Host?I wanted to compare something in the original Baldur's Gate II and the new Enhanced Edition that was given away on Amazon Prime last summer, so I booted up my old Windows98SE/XP computer where I have had the original Infinity Engine games installed for the last 20 years instead of taking the trouble to try to install the originals on the new modern system and possibly having them conflict. However, the XP computer started going slow when playing the game, and I found that "system" was consuming a lot of CPU and do

Microsoft Windows Search Filter Host/Search Protocol Host have high CPU usage even after indexing has completed

Hi, I had just installed Windows 10 Enterprise 1607 (build 14393.105) on my computer, and I noticed that the fans were always running. Looking into task manager and I found that "Microsoft Windows Search Filter Host" and "Microsoft Windows Search Protocol
Host" were always using >40% CPU combined. I check "indexing options" in control panel, but it says "indexing complete". I tried "delete and rebuild index", and it finished within 30min, but the two processes above were still running and sucking cpu for no
    reason.

I tried "trouble shooting windows search" but it returned no problems.

Anyone know how to fix this issue?

    Hi Alan,

The possible root cause for that dialogue box is that, the Search Indexer is trying to index everything that your Outlook client has access to, which would include all those accounts that you have accessed.
If that's the case, then you get yet another reason to do a profile cleanup, especially if you aren't going to access those accounts anymore. It's just wasting resources on your machine.

To stop this, you have to remove the account from the mail accounts in Control Panel:

    • Go to Control Panel then User Accounts.
    • Choose Mail (Microsoft Outlook)
    • Click Show Profiles and remove all the profiles that you don't need.
For added reference you can also check this
    link
    coming from out TechNet site.

Give us an update on what happens.
