Windows 10: Stop Documents Folder from Reappearing in OneDrive

An issue that is driving me nuts: I do not want the Documents folder to appear in my OneDrive. I keep removing it and it keeps coming back. This issue started out of nowhere a few months ago, and I solved it by going to OneDrive settings>account>choose folders and from here I removed the checkbox by Documents. Now the problem is back. When I try to resolve it the same way, it only lasts for a few minutes before the folder returns, and when I go into settings, the checkbox next to Documents is checked again though I have not changed the setting myself. Immediately after unchecking the box

I don't need the Documents folder in OneDrive but when I delete it, it keeps reappearing at a later time in the day.

Is there a way to stop this happening?

Immediately after unchecking the box, the documents folder disappears from OneDrive on my computer, phone, and web, so it is not resyncing from any of the locations I use. The setting just reverts on its own.

I do not use the Documents drive, I have changed the default save location to my main OneDrive folder everywhere I know to (and there is nothing in the Documents folder). How do I get rid of this thing for good?

(This seems like a Microsoft glitch, but their support has historically been time consuming and ultimately useless at resolving anything.)
