Windows 10: sound suddenly stops on windows 11

hi! i have a new laptop about 3 months old and ever since I got it, the sound has been cutting out randomly. It happens at least once when i am streaming a show or a movie. i thought it was only happening on the prime video app, so was blaming that, as system sounds were still working but my show would suddenly be silent. today it also happened on disney+, one moment there was volume, then nothing the next. the volume button when i pressed it still made a sound, but i had to restart the whole browser to get volume back. my audio drivers say they're all up to date, as are windows updates. a l

Notification sounds suddenly stopped working

Sounds for Windows 10 notifications suddenly stopped working. These are the banners that appear on the lower right when a new email arrives, or for example, a newsflash from CNN or WSJ, etc. I still see the banners, but there is no sound.

I have already checked the following:

• Notification options in Windows 10 "Settings"
• Sound settings in Outlook 2016 (sounds in Outlook work except for new email notification)
• "Quiet hours" option
• Ran MS sounds diagnostic tool; indicated it made some changes but the problem persists
  

When I first used "Quiet Hours" it muted sounds 24/7, not just between midnight and 6 AM. I am wondering if "Quiet Hours" is now "stuck" in the mute mode, even though the icon indicates it is turned off.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

TROUBLESHOOT SOUND

From Sound Icon

Right-click on the Speaker/Headphone icon in the taskbar of your PC. Select Troubleshoot sound problems. The troubleshooting process will begin.

CHECK DEFAULT SPEAKER

If you have multiple speakers, you need to set the one that you are using as the default one. Sometimes, after updating Windows, this setting changes, resulting in no sound. To fix it, follow these steps:

Step 1: Search for Control Panel using the search option in the taskbar.

Step 2: In Control Panel, click on Sound.

Step 3: Under the Playback tab, make sure your speakers are set as default. A green tick on them indicates that they are the default. If they aren’t, click on it once and select Set Default at the bottom.

Sound suddenly not working

I've never encountered a problem like this with Windows 7 before. But if your using onboard sound, I'd suggest reinstalling the drivers for it and see what happens.
