Windows 10: Sound becomes muted while changing volume with slider in taskbar

I had this strange issue and looked it up - apparently others have had this issue as well.What I found was that it was somehow related to a Windows Alarm that I had set and not dismissed - but the alarm window was no longer being displayedi turned off Windows Alarms and the problem was resolved

  Are you able to use Volume slider on the taskbar?
  
• 
  Do you get any error message?
  
• 
  Are you able to see sound icon on the taskbar?
  

I suggest you to hoover your mouse on the right side of the taskbar and click on the sound icon and try to use volume slider and check if it that works.

Follow the steps below and check.

• 
  Discover the empty slot on the
  Taskbar and Right click.
  
• 
  Click on Properties.
  
• 
  Under Taskbar tab and Notification area
  click on Custom.
  
• 
  Tap on Select which icons appears on the taskbar.
  
• 
  Turn on Volume option.

No Beep Sound On Windows 10 Volume Control Slider

Hi James,

check the system sounds setting,

right click on the speaker icon on the taskbar and select "open sound settings"

Under apps volume, look at system sounds and check the following

1) it is not muted (the speaker icon to the left of the slider will show an X if muted)

2) volume level is not too low (this is a percentage of the master volume above)

3) output is pointing to a device that is connected and working

Windows 10 volume slider:

This is the main slider which controls overall volume of your PC.

VLC player & Spotify

These and other similar programs volume sliders control itself volume.

Example:

if you decrease volume or mute within media player then you are modifying that specific player sound; Not entire PC. Which means, Those settings won't applied on Windows Notification System OR other media players and they can play sounds.

And if you modify Windows 10 volume like "mute it" then all sounds will be muted. (Including media player, notification and other sounds)

In Short:

• Windows 10: Global settings and will effect all sounds (players, notifications etc)
  
• Media Players: Specific player settings
