  1. Snipping Tool Glitch - Highlighted/inked area overlaps when minimized

Good Day Team!I have noticed during highlighting an area in Snipping Tool using a highlighter or pen, that the highlighted area does not dry/stick and moves to another area upon minimization. This affects the image when pasting on emails and chats especially when covering or pointing out a portion of the image.Thank You!

    Windows snipping tool highlight straight

Windows snipping tool doesn't have any way to let us draw straight lines by pressing Shift. Windows Ink Workspace is another tool that supports snipping and drawing the snipped portion. It has a virtual ruler that helps us to draw straight lines.

    To enable Windows Ink Workspace

To launch the workspace, click or tap the pen-shaped Windows Ink Workspace icon that appears in your notification area.

Tap the "Screen sketch" block. It will be the third block in the list. It will automatically take a screenshot of your display and load it for your sketching.

Navigate to the pen bar at the top right of the screen.

Select the ruler icon. This looks like a diagonal ruler.

Place the mouse on top of the ruler and use mouse scroll wheel to rotate and position the ruler.

  3. snipping tool freezes during inking

I have been having the same issue for as long as I can remember with the Snip and Sketch tool. I recently picked up a Surface Pro 8 and hoped this issue would be resolved with the new hardware and Windows 11, however the issue continues to persist. Same behavior as described by OP. I take a screen snip, then begin to ink and it appears to be working well, but I am then not able to select any other options (highlighter, change ink, etc.) for what feels like 30 seconds. I am usually still able to ink during this apparent freeze however, I am just locked out of making any other changes or even exiting the application.

    snipping tool freezes during inking

I actually figured out what was causing my issue with inking in the snipping tool!

I use a clipboard management app called Ditto - Get Ditto Clipboard - Microsoft Store

While reviewing my clipboard history within Ditto, I realized there were many copies of the same image at different points while inking. I think ditto was continually copying every change I was making while inking, and it was causing the snipping tool to lock up and sometimes crash.

Not sure if you are using the same app, but as soon as I quit Ditto and tried inking again, I have not had any issues.

I am going to continue testing, but so far I have been able to ink on multiple screengrabs for several minutes without issue (changing colors, rulers, highlighter, etc). As soon as I launched Ditto again and tried inking, the issue immediately returned.

    Hope this helps!
