    Second Monitor / HDR

I bought a new monitor, and as soon as I plugged in the HDMI cable, everything worked correctly especially the extended mode. Then, I selected the HDR option, and the problem is that as soon as I enabled HDR, the secondary monitor turned off and now only works in duplicate mode.Additionally, there are several issues:In Windows settings, the second monitor appears, meaning it is detected, but I cannot modify any options. In the NVIDIA Control Panel, specifically in the "Set PhysX Configuration" section, the second monitor is visible and directly linked to the RTX GPU. However, for some reason, I

HDR on HDR monitor causes issue on secondary, non-HDR monitor

I have an Aorus AD27QD (HDR) monitor as my primary display and an ultrawide 34UM88-P (Non-HDR) as my secondary. If HDR is enabled in windows and I go to a full screen video on the non-HDR monitor after a few seconds it will flicker blue then become severely
washed out. Coming out of full screen fixes this. If HDR is not enabled full screen shows the colors perfectly normally.

Secondarily, with windows HDR on on the Aorus, the colors dim pretty drastically. HDR content great but anything that isnt HDR is dim enough to make me question if my brightness is turned down. (Its not, its 90/100). The white of a plain browser window
seems so dim its nearly grey. I also tested this on what I know is a particularly vibrant (non-HDR) . HDR on? Terrible and muted. HDR off? Bright and vibrant.

I have played with in-monitor settings, nvidia control panel, factory reset of monitor, basically everything I can think of. Everything points to it being a windows issue.

I also tried out the suggestions from this post. And it pointed me to this
    set of OS release notes
which didnt solve my issue either.

I could really use some help because I am really feeling like I wasted my money on this monitor.

HDR-capable monitor becomes completely unresponsive when switching between SDR and HDR under certain conditions

I have the Alienware AW3423DW in HDR Peak 1000 mode. Here are the steps to replicate the issue:

The relevant system information is as follows:

    • Windows 10 version 21H2
    • Nvidia GPU with GeForce Game Ready Driver version 528.02
    1. Power on computer with HDR already enabled in Windows settings from previous session. The computer will start in SDR mode but will switch to HDR as soon as it reaches the lock screen.

    2. Launch an application that does not natively support HDR but which runs in exclusive fullscreen (e.g. a non-HDR supported game).

    3. Tab out of the game and switch off HDR in Windows settings.

    4. Monitor switches off and is completely unresponsive, after a few seconds the Windows "device disconnected" sound effect can be heard.

    5. At this point, the only way to restore the monitor is to unplug and replug the power cable of the monitor. Restarting the PC or unplugging and replugging the display cable does not work.

This is how I have manually recreated the issue, but the way it has happened to me most often is by simply alt-tabbing out of an application while running in HDR mode. If the application being tabbed out from is particularly resource-demanding and results in the monitor spending a long time switching between HDR and SDR, then it will completely fail and switch off, becoming unusable.

I have already tried reinstalling my graphics driver which did not help. How can I determine which component (i.e. Operating system, GPU, Monitor) is the point of failure that is causing this problem?

Is Windows 11 possibly mishandling monitors HDR capabilities ?

    Hi Sipder,

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

I'm Hahn and I'm here to help you with your concern.

I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing issues with your monitor's HDR functionality. It sounds like you've tried a lot of troubleshooting steps and the problem seems to be mostly driver related and unlikely to be an issue with the firmware. , but I'll try to provide some additional suggestions.

    - Try Different HDR Content: Test with different HDR content sources to ensure the issue is not specific to certain files or applications.

    - Disable Second Monitor: Temporarily disconnect the LG monitor and test HDR on the Cooler Master GP27Q alone. This will help determine if the issue is related to the presence of multiple monitors.

Report this issue to Cooler Master's support team to explain that your monitor is unable to reach the rated brightness in HDR mode. Provide detailed configuration information, including the operating system used, driver version and other related software and hardware information.

In the meantime, you can also report this issue to NVIDIA's (or AMD's) support team, especially if it's related to graphics drivers. They may provide customized solutions or updates to resolve HDR issues related to GPU drivers.

I hope this helps. If there is anything not clear, please do not hesitate to let me know.

    Your Sincerely
