Windows 10: Screen is dim after installing new LCD, NOT a cable issue.

I recently installed a new LCD screen Dell Vostro 5402 laptop, windows 11 and upon booting, the screen worked normally; BIOS and windows startup screen were clearly visible at a normal brightness. When it reached the lock screen, it was dark; upon closer inspection i saw a dim outline of the lock screen indicating the backlight was not on. Additionally, when I attach an external monitor through HDMI the screen on the laptop briefly flashes at normal brightness before the monitor displays the duplicated screen. It does the same when disconnected.I am decently confident this is not a cable iss

Weird screen dimming issue.


For the last few weeks I've had this bizarre issue where my screen will randomly dim. I can't click on anything when this happens.. The only way to fix it, is to either restart my computer or re-log.

Any suggestions?

 

Gateway W350i Notebook LCD Dims Uncontrollably After Installing Driver


I just installed Windows 10 on a Gateway W350i notebook. That little old system works surprisingly well with an SSD and a new graphics card installed!

Problem is that when Windows 10 installs the Intel GPU drivers, it dims the screen to an unworkable level, and it cannot be restored. The problem is the actual backlight, not a color profile or something.

I've found that reverting to the Microsoft basic display driver does resolve the brightness issue mostly, but I cannot get to the LCD native resolution of 1280x768.

I would prefer to have the Intel drivers active, but even getting the native resolution with the basic drivers would be enough to get the system to a reasonable usage state.

Any ideas on either getting Intel drivers working, or forcing the native LCD resolution on the display?

The built-in diagnostic tools on Dell laptop PCs can help you determine if the screen abnormality you are experiencing is an inherent problem with the LCD screen of the Dell laptop PC or with the video card (GPU) and PC settings.



In case of screen abnormalities, it’s recommended to isolate the LCD screen by running the built-in self test. Refer
Run hardware diagnostics on the LCD screen section in the article

If no screen abnormality is detected in the built-in self test mode, try the other troubleshooting tips suggested in the article

Note:

• Restore points are generated when you install a new app, driver, or Windows update, and when you create
  a restore point manually. Restoring won’t affect your personal files, but it will remove apps, drivers, and updates installed after the restore point was made.
  
• Restoring PC to factory defaults will result in data loss. You may take a backup of the data before restoring system to factory defaults.
