    SanDisk 16GB - The disk is write protected.


    Hello, I am receiving an I/O device error whenever I try to format / modify / uninstall the microSD drive. I've tried using DISKPART, REGEDIT, and compmgmt.msc to try and fix the file, but there are no changes.Why Current Read-only State : Yes but Read-only : No? Is the SD corrupted?

    Write Protection.

    Hello everyone,

    I am having a SanDisk Cruzer Blade 8 GB Pen Drive. It worked nicely for 2 years and then it suddenly shows the error message when I try to format the drive: The disk is Write Protected. I tries several ways:

    • Registry editor (StorageDevicePolicies)
    • Command Prompt
    • Different tools etc.
    I couldn't remove the write protection. Please help me on this topic.

    How To Format A Write Protected Flash Memory ?

    ¿You already tried this one?...

    Run CMD


    1. diskpart
    2. list disk

    Then in the 3º step, put the correct number of disk in the list for the usb flash (if it's listed in disk 3, then you'll have to write select disk 3).

    2. select disk #
    3. clean
    4. create partition primary
    5. select partition 1
    6. active
    7. format fs=fat32
    8. assign
    9. exit

    with that commands you will format the flash drive in fat32, if you have a large drive you can select also "format fs=ntfs" in step 7.

    SanDisk 16GB - The disk is write protected.

    Enable or Disable Disk Write Protection in Windows  


    SanDisk Ultra USB3 16GB

    No write protect switch on it.


    edit: just reading the sandisk website, seems it may be an issue with the drive itself. They say that it can put itself into write protected mode when somethings does wrong with it to protect the data and theres no way to fix it but may be able to RMA (if i can find a reciept)
