Windows 10: Restore Win10 to Win 11 using Windows 7 backup

I backed up my Windows 10 computer using the Windows 7 backup utility. To restore to a Win11 computer, one option is: restore all files. Will that mess with Windows 11?

And please note, "Rottweiler guesses that Backup and Restore (Windows 7) will remain in Windows until upgrades from Windows 7, 8 and 8.1 are no longer permitted" statement is not based on facts.

Backup and Restore (Windows 7) function was removed and discontinued in Windows 8. The Control Panel applet used by Backup and Restore was renamed to Windows 7 File Recovery.

But this function re-appeared in Windows 8.1 with a same name and can be found in Control Panel even in latest Windows 11 builds and is fully functional and supported.

However Microsoft hides this applet in Windows 11 and suggests to use online backup to OneDrive.

P.P.S. System image backup is a different tool and is not related to Backup and Restore (Windows 7).

 

Backup and Restore - Win 7

I tried using the Win 7 Backup and restore. Below is a screen print of my settings. After a backup (and deleting programs etc), I did a restore but my programs were not restored. My data files were restored.

Can you suggest what I might have done wrong that the programs were not replaced
