Windows 10: Remote desktop connection logon attempt failed.

Hello,I am trying to make connection from my desktop to my laptop via Microsoft's RDP.Whenever I try to connect, my credentials do not work. I am using the same Microsoft account on both of these devices. And I am certain that these credentials work elsewhere.Now, I can connect the other way, from my laptop to my desktop following the exact same steps and credentials.After a bit of looking on the web I found out that a Microsoft moderator pointed out in this post https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/cannot-log-in-my-pc-via-remote-desktop-locally/bca0edd9-1f91-4ea8-b8c6-974900

remote desktop fails

I'm trying to establish a remote desktop connection to another pc on my network. I get the IP, I open the remote desktop app, input the IP, and it asks me for my creds. I type in my Microsoft password, because it already has my username. And it says, "the
logon attempt failed" Does that mean I have the wrong password? or what else?

Whenever I try to logon via Remote Desktop Connection, it always fails. Now, it is the correct password, because I'm using the same account to post this very message. I've tried all my past passwords and I've come to think there is coming wrong.





Edit: I am running Windows 10 Pro, and connecting to a Data Center that others have connected to before. It is allowed through my firewall, and is currently on in the settings menu.

 

Remote Desktop Connection problems


Have you tried Remote Desktop Connection, to connect from your Windows 10 laptop to your Windows 7 desktop? Try it first, post back and tell how it went.

Some additional help because you mentioned you are a remote newbie *Wink. The windows 7 related tutorials from our sister site the Seven Forums:

1. On Windows 7 desktop, set network location to either Home or Work (I recommend Work):

2. On Windows 7 desktop, allow incoming remote connections:

3. On Windows 7 desktop, find out its IP address:

4. On Windows 10 laptop, start the Remote Desktop application and connect to the Windows 7 desktop using the IP address from step 3 above (see Part Three in the tutorial):
   • RDC - Connect Remotely to your Windows 10 PC - Windows 10 Forums
   • Notice that although the tutorial is written for Windows 10, it also applies to Windows 7

Try the above, post back how it went.
