Windows 10: Remote desktop connection app freezes on one display in dual display setup

I just installed a dual monitor setup at home so I can work from home. When I use the Remote Desktop Connection app on my personal computer to connect to my work desktop, it will work fine on both monitors for a few minutes, and then one display will freeze. While in full screen, I can still operate windows in the frozen display, it just stays frozen like a screenshot. The only way to unfreeze the display I have found is by clicking the Windows key to exit full screen temporarily, but this only resolves the issue for a few minutes after which one display freezes again. I have tried restarting

Remote Desktop Freezes Running Remote Desktop

I've made some progress on this. I've tried two other remote desktop applications:
- TeamViewer
- Remote Desktop Connection Manager

Both of those work perfectly while the Windows 10 Remote Desktop app stalls and freezes in the exact same configuration. I have tried many different display settings for Windows 10 Remote Desktop remote display; and, although the problem improves at lower resolutions, the performance is still terrible. I have also set my laptop to run in 1920X1080 display mode rather than the full 3840X2160 4K UHD display mode. (I have a new HP Spectre x360 laptop with 16GB of memory, 512GB SSD, and an Intel Graphics card).

It seems to me that this is a problem with Windows 10 Remote Desktop since other remote desktop apps work fine in the same configuration. The problem seems to be that Windows 10 Remote Desktop is not well-designed for large display sizes and chokes on transferring video data for large display sizes.

I will certainly help you with the issue you are experiencing in adjusting the resolution on the remote desktop.

This issue might occur due to, when you first connect, Remote Desktop attempts to size the screen according to its default setting. You can adjust this setting within the Remote Desktop client. Adjusting the screen size allows
you to sculpt the desktop display size to better fit your computer's viewing area.

Please follow below mentioned steps to fix the issue:

Step 1: To change the size of the Remote Desktop window:

• 
  Open Remote Desktop Connection (RDC).
  
• 
  Click on the Options button located in the lower left-hand corner of the RDC window.
  
• 
  This will expand the RDC window to display 7 different option tabs.
  
• 
  Click on the Display tab.
  
• 
  In the display configuration section, slide the bar to the left or right to decrease or increase the size of the remote desktop session window.
  
• 
  Click the Connect button.

Step 2:

  Open the "Start" menu and type
  "mstsc" (in the search bar) and then press “Enter."
  
• 
  Click "Options”.
  
• 
  Click the "Display" tab.
  
• 
  Drag the slider bar left or right to
  reduce or enlarge the display resolution. The
  left-most position is the minimum resolution, while the right-most is a full-screen resolution.

This issue might have occurred due to display drivers. Try the below troubleshooting steps and check if it helps.

Step 1: I suggest you to update the display drivers and check if the issue persists.

Steps to Update Graphics Driver.

• Press Windows key + X key when you are at desktop.
• Select Device Manager.
• Expand Display Adapter.
• Right click on the Display Adapter and click on
  Update driver software.

Step 2: I suggest you to install all the pending updates on Windows 10.

• Connect to the internet.
• Press Windows key and type
  updates.
• Click on Check for updates.
• Under Windows Updates, click on
  Check for updates.
• Try to install the updates being shown.

Also, check if the issue persists on 100% screen resolution as well.
