Windows 10: Receive 0x8024200B error during Oct 2023 update

During the installation of the Oct 2023 monthly update, I received this error:Installation Failure: Windows failed to install the following update with error 0x8024200B: HP - Printer - 8.1.1320.2917.I do not have an HP printer connected to my Lenovo Yoga 920 laptop.Running Windows 10 Home 22H2 19045.3580This error occurred on 10/12/23, during the monthly update, and continues to occur almost every day. Appears in the Reliability Monitor history.Please advise.

Error 0x8024200b preventing me from installing an update

Hi Rhonda,

Error 0x8024200b may occur when Windows update was downloaded successfully but was not installed or somehow became corrupt.

I would suggest you reset Windows update Components and see if it helps.

(Steps for Windows 8.1 are also applicable for Windows 10)

The "solution" mentioned above is overkill. Try the suggestions found here:

This worked for me, the key was to remove my printer in "Devices and Printers", which also removed the "unknown printer" in Device Manager. I then re-installed it and, when I reran Windows Update, the problem update went away. Hope this works for you.
