So here's where we are. We have been running a virtual print server on Server 2012 R2 for years now - it predates my employment here, so I don't know exactly how long. But it's been a while. Recently we tried to run an in-place upgrade on the existing server to get it on Server 2019. This in-place upgrade we could never get to work, it would fail every single time. Rather than continue to fight with an upgrade, we opted to just build an entirely new server in our same virtual environment, just a clean install of Server 2019. We're not a huge organization, so it wasn't ideal, but it was managea

  2. Deploy Printer on network using local group policy (Windows 10 Pro Laptop)

I am trying to deploy a printer that is connected to my laptop via USB. I am trying to use local group policy to accomplish this. I have done the following in the admin account:

    1) Connected the printer Cannon MG3500 to my laptop and installed the drivers.

    2) Shared this printer on my home network which is of type Private.

    3) I see the printer connected in my admin account.

Now my laptop has three non-admin users; Test, Test1 and Test2. I want to deploy this printer only to Test and Test1 users. Test2 should not be able to install the printer drivers and use them.

Now, while logged in as admin, I open group policy editor and make sure that the following setting are enabled:

Printers will not deploy to domain computers via group policy; printers can be installed... 243be3d5-99f1-4127-83a3-460966c3b1b7?upload=true.png

Printers will not deploy to domain computers via group policy; printers can be installed... 6fb11886-b1b1-4298-93ce-e12020a750e5?upload=true.png

In the approved servers I am defining the print server that I created on my laptop (\\x.x.x.x\printer_name)

I verified that network discovery and file and printer sharing is turned on for private network.

Now I can deploy the printer for the whole computer in the GPO local computer policy and the printer gets deployed, no problem.

When I try to go deploy the printer in the GPO Local Computer\Test Policy (Test user policy) it always shows the printer status pending, I don't know why.

Printers will not deploy to domain computers via group policy; printers can be installed... 416eb5f1-498d-444e-a61b-32e2a49e37f0?upload=true.png

So does this mean that I can deploy the printer, I have to deploy it for the whole computer and cannot do it for specific users? (non-admin)

Also I tried deploying the printer using print management, right-click on the printer and select deploy with group policy. This did not work as well.

I am trying to do this on a laptop that is running Windows 10 Pro and is not connected to a DC.

Can someone please help me with my dilemma ?

    Thank you

Adding a network printer with Local Group Policy Editor to the User Configuration

    Hello all,

    Ambience:

I work in a place that has a print server, with some network printers installed.

Normally we install printers in the users PC's accessing to the Local Group Policy Editor and adding the printer to the "User Configuration>Windows Settings>Deployed Printers".

This ambience gives us the freedom to, in case a user requests to have a different printer on his PC, to access to the PC to the LGP Editor remotely and add the printer.

    Problem:

The problem is that if we decide to deploy a different printer to a list of computers we can do it remotely but only one by one.

    Request:

So, I've decided to ask if any of you know a way to remotely add a printer to a remote computer, doing it by policy but with a command or something similar.

If we can do it this way it will allow us to deploy on multiple computers running a script.

I can insert a picture of the Local Group Policy Editor place where we add printers.

Making a shared printer the default throughout a domain

Use the print management options to set up a group policy. You will either need to set up a print server or install the necessary features on an existing server. This should give each user the correct printer when they log on.

Another option is to use a script. The Prndrvr.vbs command is a Visual Basic script located in the %WINDIR%\System32\Printing_Admin_Scripts\<language> directory. To use this command, at a command prompt, type Cscript followed by the full path to the Prnmngr.vbs file, or change directories to the appropriate folder. For example:
