Prevent built-in laptop keyboard from installing back

Hi,Common/answered question, but how do i prevent my keyboard from installing back?I have tried several methods that were working for me in the past, but after forced windows update that went on my computer few days ago i have the same problems, that it just keeps reinstalling. What i have tried:1. Uninstalling in device manager2. Disabling in local group policy through PolicyPlus, as gpedit.msc does not work for me reinstalling the drivers3. Using command sc config i8042prt start= disabled this one just straight stopped working, few months ago for me4. Changing i8042prt start value to 0 in

Built-in laptop keyboard works in BIOD but not in Windows

Since that is the case and even updating the device driver does not allow the built-in keyboard to work in Windows 10, we suggest that you uninstall the current device driver of the built-in keyboard. Doing this will allow the system to install a clean copy
of the device driver and correct any errors.

You can follow the steps on how to uninstall and reinstall the device driver for your built-in keyboard that is available through this

    link
. Refer to the last section of the article where the steps are indicated.

    Regards.

Built-in laptop keyboard works in BIOD but not in Windows

    Hi Garrick,

There are different factors that can contribute as to why your laptop's built-in keyboard is not working properly. This could be caused by a recent update that was installed or device drivers that got corrupted. For us to resolve your concern, kindly answer
    the questions below:

    • Prior to the issue occurring with the built-in keyboard in your laptop, were there any recent changes made or updates that
      were installed on your laptop?
    • When you attempted to update the device driver, were there any error messages that showed up?
    • Which version and build of Windows 10 do you have installed on your laptop?

We look forward to your response to our queries.

Prevent built-in laptop keyboard from installing back

I cant install a different laptop keyboard to disable my built in keyboard

    Hi, GABRIEL DAVID ARCENIO

    Welcome to the Microsoft Community.

If you're unable to disable the built-in keyboard through the Local Group Policy Editor or other techniques you've tried, there are a few other methods you can attempt:

    1. Device Manager:
      • Press Win + X and select "Device Manager."
      • Expand the "Keyboards" category.
      • Right-click on the built-in keyboard device and select "Disable device."
      • Confirm any prompts to disable the device.
    2. Registry Editor:
      • Press Win + R to open the Run dialog box.
      • Type "regedit" and press Enter to open the Registry Editor.
      • Navigate to the following registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\i8042prt
      • Double-click on the "Start" DWORD value on the right pane.
      • Change the value data to "4" (Hexadecimal) to disable the built-in keyboard.
      • Restart your computer for the changes to take effect.
      • Disclaimer: Generally, modifying registry subkeys or work group is intended for advanced users, administrators, and IT Professionals. It can help fix some problems, however, serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow these steps carefully. For further protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information about how to back up and restore the registry, click hereto view the article.

    3. Physically Disconnect the Keyboard: If you're comfortable doing so, you can physically disconnect the ribbon cable or connector of the built-in keyboard from the motherboard. This method requires opening your laptop, so proceed with caution and only attempt it if you're familiar with laptop hardware.
Before attempting any of these methods, make sure to create a system restore point or backup your important data to avoid any potential issues. Additionally, keep in mind that disabling the built-in keyboard may require administrative privileges on your system.

If none of the above methods work, or you're uncomfortable attempting them, consider contacting your laptop manufacturer's support for assistance. They may have specific instructions or tools to help you disable the built-in keyboard safely.

If there is anything not clear, please do not hesitate to let me know.
