Windows 10: Pressing Power button for 5 seconds does not work for screen locking up. What do I do

HP laptop Compaq switches on but screen remains locked up . pressing f5 key does not work. What do I do

Power button no longer locks screen

Originally,when i purchased my Surface pro 4 a few days ago, pressing the power button once would lock my screen. However, pressing it once now brings up the shut down screen. Are there any suggestions to fix this? Changing what the power button does in
settings doesn't help.

bro67, if you setup the power button to shutdown, pressing it once and releasing it is exactly the same as doing a shutdown from the Start menu. SSShadii is not pressing and holding the power button to drop power, he is pressing it once, to trigger a normal shutdown. I do it all the time and setup all my computers that way, personal and ones I sell.

Doesn't work for me from the lock screen either so it's a bug in Windows 10, as it used to work.

I does not suggest you to do this, if you insist on this, try the following steps.

1. Open Control Panel
   
2. Find and click System and Security
   
3. Find and click Power Options
   
4. On the left hand, you will see Choose what the power button does and click it
   
5. Click Change settings that are currently unavailable to be able to change the settings
   
6. In When I press the power button, you can choose Do nothing
