Phone Link does not respect default sound devices for calls

When trying to make a call, the phone link app does not respect the default sound device, and instead outputs to some random device. Trying to change it in the "App volume and device preferences" screen does not work either. The phone link app needs its own in-app options for sound input and output like proper communications apps have.

  2. Recipients of my phone calls via phone link complain that the sound is poor quality.

    Dear Jeff,

    Welcome to the Microsoft Community

While Phone Link doesn't encompass intricate setup items necessitating specific optimization, there are several pivotal factors impacting call quality that merit attention. I would like to share a few considerations with you:

    1. Bluetooth Interference: It's essential to verify whether your computer is concurrently connected to additional Bluetooth devices alongside the phone. The presence of multiple Bluetooth devices may result in signal interference, potentially compromising call quality. Temporarily removing these devices can help discern if they contribute to the issue.
    2. Microphone Evaluation: Experimenting with alternative microphones can offer insights into potential improvements in call quality. Testing a different microphone might provide valuable information regarding the source of the sound quality concerns.
    3. Software Alternatives: Exploring alternative software for call management can be insightful in determining if the observed sound quality issues are specific to the current software setup.
I trust that these suggestions will assist you in troubleshooting the sound quality matter. Should there be any developments or new insights regarding this issue, please don't hesitate to share them in your response.

    Warm regards,

Phone Link sound to Phone's headset

I apologize for any confusion caused. It appears that the Phone Link interface may differ depending on the version you are using.

If you don't see an "Audio" tab in your Phone Link settings, you can try the following steps to redirect the sound to your Bluetooth headset:

Connect your Bluetooth headset to your phone and make sure it is paired and connected.

On your computer, go to "Settings" > "Devices" > "Bluetooth & other devices" and make sure your phone is paired and connected to your computer.

Right-click on the volume icon in the taskbar and select "Open Sound settings".

Under the "Output" section, select your Bluetooth headset as the default audio output device.

Open Phone Link and dial the number you want to call using the dialer on the Phone Link interface.

Once the call is connected, the sound should be redirected to your Bluetooth headset.

If you still can't hear the sound through your Bluetooth headset, you may need to check the settings on your phone to make sure that the audio output is set to your Bluetooth headset. Additionally, you may need to check the documentation for your specific phone and Bluetooth headset to see if there are any additional settings that need to be configured

Phone Link sound to Phone's headset

I just went step by step. All connected and working. The only thing I do not have - other speaker/mic devices except default (computer internal) in the section Output. So I can hear sound from phone to computer but I do not hear sound in my bluetooth headset connected to the phone ;(
