A single physical HDD shows as 2 separate disks in Disk Management as a separate Disk 0 and Disk 1. I need it to be one Disk, so I can have more space on my C: Drive. How can I correct this to show only 1 Disk, and make it so I can use that extra space for my C: Drive?PS, I have only one actual physical HDD drive attached to my PC at the moment. No other drives at all. No other USB drive, SSD, thumb drive, or internal Sata drive of any kind. Just the one physical internal WD HDD Sata drive. It is a WD Blue 2TB drive I had got to replace my old C: Drive. For it was running out of space, and still

A single partitioned HDD shows as 2 separate disks in Disk Management. How can I correct this to show only 1 disk?

    Dear Community,

A single partitioned HDD in my PC shows as 2 separate disks in the Disk Management application. I don't think that it should. Referring to the lower half of my attached screenshot, the space shown as Disk 0 and Disk 2 are both
    on the same physical HDD.

C: drive has run out of space. I've moved content from what was D: drive (Disk 0) and deleted that Volume so that I can extend C: drive. But the Disk Management application shows these as being on separate drives despite them
actually being on the same HDD.

Windows 10 is installed on Disk 2 as C: drive. How do I change Disk 2 to be called Disk 0, then merge, and allocate the 1,862 GB unallocated space (formerly known as D: drive) to C: Drive? I'm happy to reinstall the OS if that's
what it takes to fix this.

I'd be grateful for any help that the Microsoft Community can afford me. Thank you.

PS: Don't be distracted by S: drive; this is a brand new HDD that became the destination for all the content that I removed from the old D: drive. When I unplug it "Disk 2" takes
    its number as "Disk 1".

  3. Disk Management

    Hi Keith,

Thanks for providing the detail that was requested previously. Since the disk management screen that you saw is showing greyed out options, we suggest that you follow the steps below to change the partition type of your internal drive:

    • Open Disk Management then right click the partition on the disk you want to covert and select Delete Volume.
    • Once you complete the process you will see the whole disk shown as two separate unallocated spaces. Right-click the disk and select Convert to GPT disk.

After the conversion, you will be able to use the whole disk and then you can create new separate partitions.

We look forward to your response to our queries.
