One child has ability to log on as a local user and others don't

This is literally driving me crazy. I have 3 children. My 13-year-old recently received a laptop for school and we added his Microsoft profile. For some reason he has the ability to log on either with his Microsoft account profile or "Sign in with a local account instead." This is not a good thing as he can bypass all Microsoft Family controls if he signs on with the local account. He is using Windows 10 Home and there is no way to disable the local user option. As a test, I added my other 2 children's accounts to the laptop so they can sign in. When they log on, they only have the ability to use their Microsoft profile account. There is no link to "Sign in with a local account instead." To further test this scenario, we created two brand new child accounts under age 13, added them to Microsoft Family Group and then added them to his laptop. Both of the new child accounts also have the ability to "Sign in with a local account instead." We tried a different computer with the same results. The only thing I can think of is that Microsoft child accounts created after a certain date have this ability. My other two children have had the same Microsoft profiles for several years vs. my 13-year-old who created his account some time after the others. So, how the heck do I fix this issue? There is no sense of having a Microsoft Family Safety program if the child can simply log-in as a local user and circumnavigate all their screen limits.

    :)

Can a local user be changed to a child account?

    Windows 10 Home
    ver 1909

    Hello,

I'm trying to see if there's a way to change a local account (standard user) to a child account so it can be managed in the Microsoft Family?

I tried to follow the steps here https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/...1-c8f8cca1d52f

but there's no option for "family and other users".

They do not have Microsoft accounts. Do I need to basically create a new child account at Windows setup?

    Any assistance appreciated.

  3. [Family Safety Question] Disable ability to "sign in to local account instead" for a child account?

    Hi

I don't believe that you have fully understood this problem and I have the same issue.

I have created a child account and set up the family safety settings as per the Microsoft guidance

However a child can circumvent these settings by switching from logging on using their Microsoft Account to using a local account.

This ability to switch to local accounts is NOT disabled on a child account.

How do I prevent this setting from being changed?

Family Safety-Change local user to Child for parent monitoring.

When my child updated to Windows 10, he became a "Local User" and I lost the ability to monitor him via Family Safety.

How do I activate Family Safety for him as a Local User? Do I have to delete his account and re-add him as a child, or is there a way to add family safety to his current login?

And if I delete his current login, re-add him as a child, will he lose all his currently saved info?
