NVME drive shows up as a hard drive and a CD drive

Hi.I recently built a new system. It has a Samsung NVME drive and no optical drives. For a couple of weeks, the only thing that showed up in the File Explorer is the NVME drive. But a couple of days ago [with no OS update as far as I can see], a "CD Drive" has shown up. When I go into the Hardware tab of the CD drive, it shows my NVME.But in Disk Management in Computer Management, I just have one drive - no optical drives - and the 3 standard partitions [EFI System Partition, Recovery Partition and the data partition]. Only the data partition is labeled [with the "C drive"].I have a tool to hide

    :)

    CD drive error

    1) Close all open programs
    2) Click on Start, Run, and type REGEDIT and press Enter
    3) Click on the plus signs (+) next to the following folders

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
    SYSTEM
    CurrentControlSet
    Control
    Class
    {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
    4) This folder is the DVD/CD-ROM Drive Class Description in the registry. Look for any of the following names in the right hand column.

    UpperFilters
    LowerFilters
    UpperFilters.bak
    LowerFilters.bak
    5) If any of the above keys shown in step 4 are listed, right-click on them and choose Delete
    6) After deleting the keys, close the Registry Editor
    7) Reboot your computer
    8) Open My Computer and check to see if your CD or DVD drives have returned. You may also want to open Device Manager and verify that the yellow exclamation and error code on the CD or DVD drive is gone.

And it likely has something to do with the emulated drive you have listed there.

  3. How to Partiton a Hard Drive in Vista

This is a way to get Vista to see another hard drive that is not associated with the OS. There is some times when your new hdd doesn't seem to want to work well with Vista. But, there is a solution in it.

Open the Computer Management By doing these steps.
    • Click on the Start Button
    • Click on Control Panel
    • Click Administrative Tools
    • Double click on Computer Management
You are now in the Navigation panel of the Computer Management.
When in Computer Management, you then have to allow the new drive to be recognized.
    • Double click on Storage
    • Double click on Disk Management
Now in the middle of your screen there is the layout of the Disk Drives that you have. The drives that are partitioned will show by the drive lettering. The others will just show up as having nothing at all in them. Below that there will be the Disk drives that are installed into the computer. You'll see that the primary one will all ways read as "Disk 0". Then you will have Disk 1 and so on. Under the Disks there will also see your CD-Rom drives.. If there is more then one, it will be labeled the same as Disk drives..

On to the Partitioning of the drive in question.
    • Right Click on the drive
    • Click to format the drive or Enable Volume. There will be a series of windows that open up. This is Vista's formatting. Just go threw the windows, and make sure everything is the way you want it to happen.
    • Once the formatting is done, will take some time depending on the drive size.
    • Right click on the drive
    • Click on Mark the Partition as Active
After you have done those steps, The drive will be up and running threw Vista.

    :Side Notes:
If you are not the Administer to the Os, then you will have to enable it..
You may also want to redo the drive lettering of it all. But, I really don't see a reason to do so. If you do, you have to redo drive paths and so forth.. A lot of work on something so small...

NVME drive shows up as a hard drive and a CD drive

WD External Hard Drive Also Show Up As CD Drive

When I connect my WD external hard drive (FNVME drive shows up as a hard drive and a CD drive :), it also shows up as a CD drive (ENVME drive shows up as a hard drive and a CD drive :). I tried a different USB port - same problem. This drive is an older model (about 8" X 6" container). I googled this situation and all I could find to try was to format the
drive, which I did. It still shows the CD drive. Following is a screen shot from "This PC" after the format.

Following is what is shown when I Open the CD Drive. Note the dates. Since I formatted the hard drive, where is this information coming from ?

Following is a screen shot from Disk Management:

Before I formatted the hard drive, I had created a System Image on it, and the message said "completed successfully", and the information on the drive looked like the right stuff. But I am concerned what would happen if I tried to restore the System Image
with the drive also showing up as a CD drive.

    Any ideas ?

    thanks
