Windows 10: No toggle for microphone for Copilot in settings

Copilot cannot find my microphone. All other apps on my Windows 11 PC can find my microphone. Research indicates that I should be able to toggle the microphone on and off in Copilot from the Windows 11 privacy settings. Attached is a screenshot of those settings. Copilot does not appear. Any suggestions on how to get Copilot to detect my mic? It works fine with Google Search. Thanks. Version 10.0.22631 Build 22631.

How to disable copilot in Windows 11 23H2?

There is a solution to keep Copilot out of your eyesight, it does not permanently remove or uninstall Copilot from your Windows 11 environment. Microsoft is persistent and Copilot is inevitable, not to mention the latest computers are equipped with a dedicated Copilot Key in the keyboard. Hence, it is up to us to get used to this feature, and also the field of AI is exponentially increasing, so it is better to get used to it. However, the simple solution is to disable copilot via Taskbar as you mentioned that Policy Editor didn't help. The following are the steps.

• Go to Windows Settings.
  
• Click on Personalization.
  
• Under Taskbar, you can find Copilot (preview)
  
• Toggle the switch to Off.
  
• In this way, Copilot can be kept out of sight.

Microphone not working

Hey there Carissa, could you try this for me?

Open Settings.

Click on Privacy.

Click on Microphone.

Turn on the Allow apps to access your microphone toggle switch.

After completing the steps, you also want to make sure to check the list and enable microphone access for the apps you want, if they're currently disabled. In the case the feature isn't enable, click the Change button and turn on the toggle switch.

In order to get clarity and to assist you accordingly, please reply with the answers to the questions below.

• What is the Windows 10 version and Build installed? (Type
  winver in Windows search/Run command)
  
• When you say that “the box is grey and unresponsive”, where you are seeing this option?
  
• Are you able to connect the microphone to the PC? (Does it show in Device Manager)

Meanwhile we would suggest you to perform these steps and check if you are able to setup the microphone.

Steps to set up a microphone: Before you set up Speech Recognition, make sure you've plugged the microphone into your PC so the following steps work.

1. Press Windows + Q or click on the Windows Search.
   
2. Enter Set up a microphone in the search box, and then tap or click
   Set up a microphone.
   
3. Follow the instructions on the screen.
   
4. Once you are able to setup the microphone and then check if it’s working.
