No more updates to original Win 10 version 1507/10240 after 26 March?

I think this means that updates will stop for the original Windows 10 RTM version 10240...
I see that 1507/10240 has been granted a further 60 days of grace. The above blog has been updated to say...
So its end of May now...

    Thanks for that update. *Smile

  3. Is MS really that scared of service packs, that it refuses to name Windows properly, like 10.1, 10.2?!
I wonder, how will manufacturers deal with Windows 10 certified drivers/software not working on 10.

No more updates to original Win 10 version 1507/10240 after 26 March?

The delay in ending support for the first version may be tied into a delay of the Version 1703 which was talked about some time ago being released in March.

Microsoft does not use "service packs" anymore for Win8.x and Win10. the Service Pack era of patching Windows is nearly dead.
And manufacturers will deal with the Win10 drivers problem behind closed doors.

Could be since the nomenclature for Windows is Version then Build with updates to the build. For example, the current RTM/Released Windows is Version 1607 Build 14393.969 with the .969 being the latest update to the Build. It's taking a long time for users to catch onto and use that information, especially when filling in System Specs. Granted, saying Win7 w/SP1 was simpler.

I'm confused now. There is still an item on Microsoft's site saying there won't be any more updates for version 1507 after May 2017:
    https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/...curity-updates

But today, there's a new cumulative update?
    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/...date-kb4022727
Cumulative Update KB4022727 Windows 10 initial Build 10240.17443

And I know that XP got an update today, along with some other out-of-support versions like Vista and 8.0, but some of the updates to 10240 don't look like security issues to me, such as :
So what's going on? Has support for 1507/10240 been extended?

it's only officially extended for 1507 LTSB and KB4022727 is pretty much an "out-of-band" security update to deal with the WannaCry crisis. I don't expect Microsoft to release any new updates for the 1507 release in the CB (current branch) & CBB (current branch for business) branches beyond KB4022727 - the lone exception is the 1507 LTSB branch. nobody should be using the original 1507 Windows 10 release, except for those using Enterprise LTSB.

I clean-installed regular 1507/10240 Pro to see what happens, and it does indeed pick up KB4022727 when I check for Updates, so it's not just for LTSB.

And that update does seem to contain more than just critical security patches - for example: "Addressed issue where displays turn off unexpectedly even when “Turn off display” is set to “Never” in Power Options." may be inconvenient but it doesn't sound like it can infect your computer, so it isn't just security updates in the wake of WannaCry.

Also, Windows 10 1507 is not mentioned in the list of unsupported operating systems in this page which accompanies this week's patches for XP, Vista etc:
    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/...lder-platforms

So it's still unclear to me if Microsoft have actually ended support for 1507 (non-LTSB)?
