  1. New monitor, Windows moves screens from secondary to main after waking from sleep/display...

I've been using a dual monitor set up for a while with no issue. This week, I got a new main monitor, and made my old main monitor my secondary. After the display shut off for any reason (whether it went to sleep/hibernated or just turned off display), when it came back, all the windows from my now secondary monitor were moved to the main one.

I've seen tons of threads about the issue dating back to Windows 7 but have seen no actual consistent fix besides using a program like PersistentWindows which I am using now but would like to figure out if I can fix the problem without a third party program.

My prior set up was main HDMI and secondary DVI. With the new main monitor, I used DisplayPort and kept the HDMI connection for the secondary. I had read that it could be an issue with DP so I switched that connection to DVI (the secondary monitor only has an HDMI connection) but the problem persisted. I turned off the new main monitor's deep sleep option (by turning off FreeSync - it didn't have a direct deepsleep option), still no luck. My secondary monitor doesn't have any deep sleep option I can find.

Some specs... The new main monitor is an Asus VG27VQ. The secondary monitor is an LG but I'm not sure what model. Windows just says "LG FULL HD." Graphics card is a Radeon RX 570 (https://pcpartpicker.com/product/RX...g-strix-video-card-rog-strix-rx570-o4g-gaming).

    Any help is appreciated.

EDIT: If I manually choose "hibernate", everything works fine. It's when the display turns off on its own or I choose sleep that it moves the windows.

W10 Moving Windows to Monitor 1 After Waking.

I run a two monitor setup, got a 1920x1080 main screen and had a 4:3 1280x1024 second monitor for a long time. But finally upgraded my second monitor last week to a 24" 1920x1080 Samsung LED. Scored it for $30, and super happy with it except one thing.

I use my main monitor for gaming. The second monitor holds my Steam Friends List and Steam Chat Windows. As well as Twitch App or Discord. The problem I'm having is since changing the monitor, when I wake the computer back up it moves all windows back to my main monitor. I don't ever let me HDDs sleep, just my screens turn off after a bit. Before the monitor swap it worked fine, nothing moved. After that just the windows move. I didn't change anything else, and icons still stay on screen 2.

But it's frustrating moving those windows back to monitor two every single time I wake the screens. I tried updating video drivers, but it doesn't fix it.

It works fine and remembers when not sleeping. I can move them over, then close the windows and fire them back up and they start on screen two. But once the monitors turn off, back to square one. Any ideas here?

Well, it seems to be some issue with how Display Port works. My 4:3 was running off my DP with a VGA converter. I figured the 1080p would be no different, was using a DP to HDMI adapter. But I guess DP turns off the signal and doesn't know what to do with the windows or something and moves them over the the HDMI monitor (since they must handle sleep differently). Using a DVI to HDMI adapter instead fixed it.

Desktop icons move from main screen to extended screen monitor

Thank you! Your post was very helpful up to a point. My system is using a Dell Laptop and a 27" external monitor. It uses the Intel Graphics Adapter and Intel Display Settings utility, so I can't just follow along with your step-by-step procedures. My Primary
has been the Laptop display and all Icons have resided there until a week ago. Now the Icons have moved to the second monitor and they go back to the laptop if I set it for built-in display only.
