  1. New computer did not create a password but its asking for one

New computer out of the box today. I set it up as a work computer using my work email address which I am the admin through Go Daddy. The computer was set up fine and running great for several hours until I let it go into rest mode and it asked me for a password to log back in. I did not create a password for this computer. I have read all the suggestions regarding changing passwords through the microsoft exchange and changing passwords through the command prompt. I am at a loss at this point. There are no other accounts on the computer yet to try to log into and my account works on other

Upgrading to windows 10 suddenly creates a password to my computer???

    Hi David,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community.

I understand your concern and frustration you have been through. I will be glad to assist you.

If you are using a Microsoft Account you cannot remove password because of the security reasons. I would suggest you to create a new local account from which you can log in and avoid login password and pin. Follow the steps below.

Refer the link below and create new Local account.

Manage User Accounts in Windows - Microsoft Support

Follow the steps below to avoid log in password.

    • Press “Windows Key + R”.
    • Type “netplwiz”.
    • And select the Local account and uncheck the option "user must enter user name and password to use this computer".

Hope this information is helpful. Please get back to us with the information required, if you need further assistance, we’ll be glad to assist you.

    Thanks

  3. Create Password Rest Disk

    Hi,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

Sorry for the inconvenience caused. I will assist you with this.

    Note

    • A password reset disk can only be created for local user accounts. If your computer is on a domain, a system administrator can reset your domain password. For Microsoft accounts you can reset the password by following the steps below
      • Sign in to your Microsoft account, then select
        Security & privacy.
      • Select Change password.
      • Enter your current password, then the new password that you want to use, then enter the new password again.
      • Select Save.

Try the following steps to create a password reset disk for a local user account.

    • Login to your computer using the local account you want to create a password reset disk for.
    • Insert a USB drive or SD card into the computer.
    • Type Create a password reset disk and select it
    • Click Next.
    • Select the location to create the password key disk and click Next.
    • Enter your account password and click Next.
    • Click Next, then click Finish.

Hope the above information helps. Reply with necessary information and the result to help you further. Thank you.

New computer did not create a password but its asking for one

New computer is asking for a password.

    Hello Marcy, this is Emily.

With brand new computer's out of box experinece process, it will never show you an existing user and ask you for password. Instead, it should ask you to set up an account.

The fact that you have an user called "Owner" and it is asking for password tells me that you either got a floor model, or you have whoever you purchased this from help you set up the computer. Or if these are gifted, the gifter has already started the initial setup. You will need to reach out to whoever you got the computer from for the password, once you get it, you can do a factory reset to start over. If there's no way to get this password at all, you only option is to perform a clean install of Windows 11. You don't need to worry about license issue as it reuses the same OEM license.

To perform a clean installation of Windows 11 using the Windows Media Creation Tool:

The following steps should be done on a working Windows computer:

Download the Windows Media Creation Tool from Microsoft's official website. https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=2156295

Run the tool and select "Create installation media for another PC."

Choose "USB flash drive" as the media to use for the installation and select "Next."

Connect a USB flash drive with at least 8 GB of free space to your computer.

Select the USB flash drive you want to use, and then select "Next."

The tool will then download the required files and create the installation media.

    =====================================================

Now these steps will be done on your problematic computer:

Go to the computer's BIOS boot menu to have it boot from the USB drive.

Follow the on-screen instructions to install Windows 11, making sure to choose "Custom install" and select the option to delete all existing partitions.

Once the installation is complete, you'll have a clean installation of Windows 11 on your computer.
