when i play games or listen to music or do both i reduce my volume so it does not disturb others. i use the f7&8 key which reduces the system volume. but recently the keys reduce the system volume but my sound coming from the speaker produces the same sound at level 100 to 1 which is very loud and mutes when it goes to 0. but when i connect my earbuds then the sound int he earbuds is completely fine

    :)

    Hello Jordan,

Thank you for posting on Microsoft Community. We regret the inconvenience caused and will assist you in resolving the issue.

From the above description, I understand keyboard buttons f6,
f7 and f8 have stopped working which are sound controlling keys.

Before assisting further, I would like to ask you few questions:

    • Are you facing the above issue on a laptop or desktop keyboard?
    • Did you make any hardware or software changes on the PC?
    • Did you check if other keyboard buttons are working?
    • Did you try updating the keyboard driver?

You may be facing the above issue due to some of the hardware components conflicting with the operating system installed on the PC. The above issue may also occur if you have made any recent hardware or software changes to the PC which is causing the
    keyboard to not function normally.

Method 1: Run the Hardware and Devices troubleshooter by following the steps below and check if any of the hardware components is missing or corrupted.

Running the troubleshooter will help in detecting and identifying the issue and in certain cases will fix the same to enhance the performance of the system.

    • Press Windows logo key on the keyboard, type troubleshooter and select the top most search result.
    • Click on View all from left side panel of the screen.
    • Select Hardware and Devices, click on Advanced
option and check Apply repairs automatically option.
    • Follow the on screen instructions and wait for the troubleshooting to complete.
    • Close the window after troubleshooting is completed and check for the status shown on the window.

Method 2: If the issue persists, update the
keyboard drivers manually from Device manager and check if the issue is resolved.

    • Press Windows logo + X keys on the keyboard and select
Device Manager from the context menu.
    • Expand Keyboards, right click on the keyboard driver and select
Update this software option from the context menu.
    • Follow the on-screen instructions and wait for the update to complete.
    • After updating, close the window and check if the changes are effective.

Write to us with the answers to the above questions and the status of the issue on the same post for further assistance. Your reply is most important for us to ensure we assist you accordingly.

    Thank you.
