Windows 10: My SSD jumps to 100% disk usage when i'm playing game and my computer freezes after few...

Disk usage jumps to 100% regularly when playing video games.

When I play games, I will (semi) regularly have what are essentially micro-freezes. Anywhere from 1-5 seconds where the game just halts. And today I was playing a game while watching the task manager and whenever a freeze occurred, it corresponded with a
spike in disk usage to 100% over the duration of the freeze. It specifically seems to occur when "new environments" are loaded or rather, things are loaded for the first time, like audio files or particle effects in game. After it happens once and my computer
sputters through it, from then on out it seems to handle it just fine.

Random 100% SSD usage spikes freeze computer for 15-30 seconds

Hey guys,

I've been having an issue with my computer for the last couple of months where it randomly freezes (could be simply using Word or playing any game), I've been trying to find a solution but I've been unsuccesful.

Whenever it happens, the task manager shows a 100% usage for the SSD without any real indication of what could be causing it:





Debating on buying another SSD to see if that fixes it.

Also, I found a post from 2016 with the same problem but I couldn't make Intel RST work on my PC

Random spikes of 100% disk activity on system drive.

Disk active time at 100, then PC freezes

Hi, thanks for your reply.

I reinstalled the NVIDIA driver from the link you provided, while also following the clean boot steps. I'm afraid this hasn't helped.

The powershell commands reported that everything is just fine.

Again, my disk usage is not simply at 100%. When it reaches 100%, my entire system freezes - I can't do anything with the pc except kill it and boot again. I only see this when playing games; transferring files works just fine (tested with 50GB files, also moved games around from one disk to another, everything went perfectly).

There's also the fact that PUBG is installed on my hard drive and CS:GO is installed on my SSD. It doesn't matter which game I try to run, whether on the SSD or HDD, the SSD (system disk) usage goes up to 100% while the HDD drops to 0%. Also, the transfer rate and speed all drop to 0KB/s.

Is there anything else I could try and do?
