Windows 10: my external keyboard for laptop doesnt work

So i have an external keyboard that i plug into my laptop and for some reason the windows key on that keyboard doesnt work. the keyboard still reacts but it doesnt bring up the screen thing. ive opened the on screen keyboard and for some reason its supposed to light up whenever you press a key but when i do it on my external keyboard it doesnt work but on my actual laptop one it does.
