Windows 10: Mp3 player says "Format Error!" & "Empty Disk!"

I have an Mp3 player with SD card slot . I copied and pasted the files to the player. Even though the files are listed in the removable disk in My PC, when I try and play them via the player, it says "Format Error!" then "Empty Disk!" Fix? Thank you

Burn disk other than in MP3 format in Windows 10.

I am doing voice recordings (discussions, presentations, etc.) using a Sony digital recorder then downloading to the computer (Windows 10). I am able to burn disks, but only in the mp3 format when either using Sony's software, or Microsoft's program.

Feedback and my experience says that mp3 only plays on computers, or some disk players. What is required to go to a more "universal" format that will play on a wide array of disk players?

I am a computer user and not a geek, so things go over me pretty quickly. Is there a way to burn disks in other than the mp3 format? Added, or supplemental hardware, or software, or - - - ?
