Windows 10: MKV video thumbnail disappear in windows 11

MKV video thumbnail disappear in windows 11 version 24H2 Os build 26100.2605. I converted the MKV files to MP4 and it works though both file MKV & MP4 extension don`t play in KLite Media Player but it works in VLC media player. I uploadthe image of the following files with file extensions, I convert the MKV files to MP4. most of my video files are in MKV format. Please walk me through on how to resolve these issues. Audio disappeared - got it back but now have odd mkv problem

Hi. While working at my Windows 10 PC yesterday, I realised there was no sound. My media players gave video only and Avidemux gave a warning “Trouble Initializing Audio Device”. All the obvious checks suggested that there was no problem, drivers were up to date etc.

I went to the sound icon in the system tray and clicked 'Troubleshoot sound problems' which told me it had fixed something but didn't say what. I now have my sound back but with some new issues:

• my WMP no longer plays mkv files
• my mkv files no longer show a 'thumbnail', just the logo of whichever media player is set to play them.

Can anyone suggest what on Earth happened yesterday? Many thanks.

UPDATE: I've found one or two mkv files that DO work with WMP and show thumbnails(!!). But the vast majority of my mkv's have the highlighted problem. All very odd...

System file corruption is one of the possible reasons why thumbnail preview has recently disappeared. To better assist you, please answer the following:

• For clarification, are referring to video preview thumbnails when using File Explorer?
  
• We would like to verify if you are referring to the Fall Creators Update. To see your
  Windows build and version, please follow the steps in this
  article.
  

In the meantime, we suggest creating a Test User Profile. This is to see if the same issue occurs on a different user profile.

To create a Test User Profile, follow these steps:

• On Search, type Settings then hit the
  Enter key.
• On Settings window, select Accounts.
• Select Family & other people.
  
• Select Add someone else to this PC.
• Name the User Profile as TEST.
• Assign a password for TEST user, then select Next.
• Sign in TEST user.

We'll be waiting on the results.

 

Video thumbnail overlays

I have tried various video thumbnail creating software programs ( free version and trial versions only )... all off them do not create MKV video thumbnail nor for .VID video files ...all other formats no issue...mp4 ,avi,wmv etc With thumbnails it is easier to locate videos to play but MKV and .VID videos you have look for titles description which can time consuming. Is there a way to have video thumbnails for these 2 video files ? Is it something to with codecs ? Because i don't want keeps installings codecs as i don't want to mess my pc up ? My OS is Windows 10 pro latest version with latest updates. Any ideas ? Thank you
