Windows 10: Microsoft Urban Assault on Win 10 & 11 fixes

For those of you trying to play Urban Assault on Windows 7, 10 & 11. For the pink or messed up menu colors, go into the game options, select primary display driver not software, check or uncheck "16-bit textures", press OK. Go back into the Options menu and either disable or re-enable "16-bit textures". This will make the selected graphics card refresh. One note, sometimes the colors on the dossier screen, right before you start a mission are still messed up.For misaligned menu buttons, same solution as above, only to get to the menu, click the button on the left side of the screen tha

Microsoft Urban Assault on windows 10

I've recently dug through the mothballs and pulled out my old urban assault disk and was trying to play it. I have tried to run it in every variation of the compatibility that I could think of and I cant seem to get it to work right. When I put it in XP
(sp3) and admin it starts and plays the intro video just fine then it loads me into the main menu but with a black or green lined screen and I cant click anything but I can here the mouse moving over the buttons I just have no picture.

My PC Specs if it matters

OS: Windows 10 64 bit

MB: ASUS P8Z77-V PRO

CPU: i7 3770k ( oc 4.5 ghz )

RAM: 32 Gb DDR3 1600 mhz

GPU: GTX 970 FTW+

Hi there! I have my Urban Assault game for long time and have recently purchased a new Laptop with Windows 10 (my old one ran Windows XP) and everytime I run the game, the introduction videos before missions are clear, but when I go to play the game, everything
gets red. I still can play the game however i would like to play it with with the original colours. My question is, is there any troubleshoot i can follow? Is this because the graphic video card is not compatible and there's nothing to do? Or is this issue
due to the operative system that is not compatible perhaps?

[ EDIT: The following assumes the other machines you tried the game with were running Win10 ]

- If the game ran on Win7 it will generally run on Win10 (I have only two of around 200 games that won't

run on Win10 - Crimson Skies and Tony Hawk Pro2 ), but games released before 2000 are more likely to have issues.

- Compatibility settings have rarely ever helped, even with Win7. Win10's compatibility 'system' is no better,

no worse, than Win7's.

- Generally if there are graphics issues with vintage/retro games it is due to the game using DOS,

or early forms of 3D rendering such as ScummVM, or 3dfx but if these issues can be fixed on Win7

they most often can be fixed on Win10 as well.

If the game is popular enough this is most often achieved through a fan based fix/patch from the games fan sites.

- On rare occasions you may find an older game will run on Intel Integrated graphics, but not on Nvidia/AMD.

- Another option that may work at times is to run a Virtual machine such as

|MG| VirtualBox 4.1.10.76836 Download but no guarantees here either.

- I don't have the details for Urban Assault, but there is one big issue with Win10 and old disk based games.

if you 'Open' the games disk and find a filed with the title secdrv.sys
(it may be lower case or all caps) the game

will be prevented from running by an evil malware devised by MS themselves - DRM Blocking.

SafeDisk DRM which uses the secdrv.sys driver, was used on the majority of early games published by MS.

EDIT: A game of this vintage may have an issue with your overclock. It may also do better if you can

limit the cpu to a single core. If you have it enabled, Hyper-Threading can also be an issue with some old games.

- Oh! Another thing. I've found that some older games don't like a couple of options that can be found in

Nvidia Control Panel > Manage 3D Settings: Shader Cache and Threaded Optimization.
