Windows 10: Microsoft LXM-00004 keyboard typing multiple different characters per key

My wireless keyboard suddenly started typing multiple characters per key. For example, the following mapping for a few example keys:"e" or "q" -> "eq" "1" -> "31""r" -> "r" + [tab]"u" -> "u7"If I write "My keyboard is not working correctly" with it, it gives the following: "My keqybo9ar d i8s no9t wo9r ki8ng co9r r eqctly"I already tried:Updating the driversUsing it on two different computersTroubleshooting from Windows settings

Microsoft LXM-00004 Ergonomic Keyboard favourite buttons open apps in background / not active / not focussed

I've had Microsoft keyboards for years, unfortunately a drink + keyboard combination meant my trusty Natural Wireless Ergonomic Keyboard 7000 finally had to be replaced (I will never understand why Microsoft stopped making this and why their current range of ergonomic keyboards is so poor. I've had to settle for the LXM-00004 which is the closest match but it's flatness is still something I'm not used to, and the decision to put a context button where the start button should be is crazy!). Anyway....



The LXM-00004 has three favourite buttons at the top left you can have open a program, file or a number of other preset options. I've assigned programs to these buttons but when I press them the program opens but it doesn't receive focus / become active, which means I then have to either Alt+tab to activate it or click it with the mouse which seems to defeat the point of having a button to open something quickly.



This issue doesn't affect the calculator (that opens and gets focus so you can just start using it), or the media buttons (the centre button opens the media player and gives it focus).



I've tried selecting the program from the list that's displayed, assigning it to the exe file and also tried assigning it to a document that opens in the app but nothing works. This affects both 3rd party and Microsoft apps (like Word).

Any ideas how to solve this annoying bug?

(I've selected windows as the product as there isn't an option for Microsoft Hardware)

I suggest you check if your keyboard is faulty. Connect the keyboard to a different USB port (if it is a USB keyboard) or a different computer.

If your keyboard is not a culprit, perform the steps below to disable Num Lock:

- Go to the Start menu to find On-Screen Keyboard, open the On-Screen Keyboard and check if characters are doubled when typing

- If the characters are doubled when typing, type a character to check if the Fn + Num Lock keys are highlighted while typing

- If yes, press Fn + Num Lock keys together on the keyboard to disable the active Num Lock and check if it helps.

If Num Lock key is active, it results in characters being typed twice.
