microsoft defender antivirus service still running after 3rd party antivirus is installed....

Hi, I'm an IT Specialist having issues with a new notebook updating Microsoft Defender daily. The Microsoft defender antivirus service is still running after the 3rd party antivirus ESET Endpoint Security has been installed and removed several times using their tools. ESET reports there is nothing else they can do since their product does not disabled Defender. Is there a solution to stop Defender from updating daily and sometimes twice in a day?

    :)

    3rd party antivirus/firewall and win10

Antivirus; the attempt by Microsoft to remove (uninstall) or limit 3rd party antivirus and firewalls is truly overreach.

This action is purely designed to make the win10 systems allow Microsoft products and setting not be blocked by other software.

Automatically turning on the built in defender and windows firewall before a 3rd party product has finished updating, being completely uninstalled or temporally paused should not invoke win10 to restart its built in products, but it does infract do this.

This is true for any pc that has any win10 files including the get win10 gwx program in win7 and 8.1.

This corrupts the installation of 3rd party product's so as to not allow the program to use its full capacity, there by making the system venerable.

The only option is to have to uninstall the 3rd party software and reinstall, this can be a real pain to reconfigure on every win10 updates build.

I can only think that this is also why Microsoft is making it difficult to use any other system protection but its own.

A big step in the wrong direction.

  3. Unable to install any 3rd Party Antivirus

    Hi Gary,

Some antivirus features may cause conflicts with Windows Defender which can block the installation of your software. To fix the issue, you may try to turn off Windows Defender, and then install the third-party antivirus. To do so, follow the steps from this
link: Turn off Windows Defender Antivirus

microsoft defender antivirus service still running after 3rd party antivirus is installed....

Windows 10 Defender stuck off even though no 3rd party AntiVirus is installed

After upgrading to Windows 10, I am getting the popup message that says Windows Defender has been turned off. I understand this would be normal if a 3rd party AntiVirus software had been installed. However I have not installed any other 3rd party AntiVirus.
I have tried to verify that there are no processes running that might be considered AntiViruses by scanning the running processes with the task manager.

Under Settings/Update & Security/Windows Defender, all of the text and toggles are greyed out. I see under Version Info that all of the fields are blank, with the exception of Antimalware Client Version (4.8.10240.16384). When I try to click the greyed out
'Use Windows Defender' text I get the popup advising me to check Security and Maintenance.

When I look at the control panel under Security and Maintenance it appears as if everything is just fine. Under Virus Protection and under Spyware Protection, it tells me that Microsoft Security Essentials is turned on. But this seems odd since I thought that
Microsoft Defender was the new name for Security Essentials. I tried to uninstall Security Essentials, but was informed that "You don't need to install Microsoft Security Essentials". So it looks like it is installed and perhaps running as if it were a 3rd
    party AntiVirus?? I'm not sure.

I tried to manually restart the Windows Defender Service, but it starts and then stops, telling me that 'Some services stop automatically if they are not in use by other services or programs'.

Any ideas about what the problem is? Thanks for any help.
