    Message pops up claiming to be from McAfee virus scan


    Hello,Within the past week, message popped up several times when I was on one particular newspaper's website -- please see a version of the message below -- claiming my laptop may be infected and a scan is now running. I never pressed on anything on the message, and finally I did a cookies clean-up on Microsoft Edge in the hope the message would not reappear; however, I just saw the message again on Edge and on Firefox, too, and it's popped up on a different website, not newspaper's. Not sure what to do, but I don't think it's legitimate. I just ran a Windows Security quick scan that didn't fi

    @wolfie138, I suggest you open your own thread as OP has McAfee pop up and you have an alert of virus. What anti virus you're using?

    Do the "One Time Scan", here: Free Virus Scan | Online Virus Scan from ESET | ESET

    Try Malwarebytes (free) also: Official Site | Malwarebytes: Antivirus, Anti-Malware & Privacy


    I would also use Revo Uninstaller to see if there is anything related to McAfee, if nothing shows on any of it's lists, try the Hunter Mode. It places a target on your desktop, which you drag and drop on anything that pops up claiming to be McAfee.

    Unstoppable McAfee side pop-ups

    My Dell laptop has been infected with Unstoppable McAfee side pop-ups. Chrome settings have always blocked pop-ups, and I added a long list of banned sites, but the side pop-ups keep coming. I don't have McAfee, so can't uninstall it. Norton Anti-Virus does its scans, but they do nothing.
