Managing Taskbar Application Shortcuts with #'s following their Name, such as Word 2

The Windows 11 application shortcuts in my taskbar are mostly but not all numbered with "2" following their name. How do I find those that would be the 1's and delete them? Would doing so reset those in the taskbar without a number?A trivial issue but a teaching moment? Thanks for any help.

    2. Click on your profile picture and select Settings.
    3. Navigate to Keyboard Shortcuts.
    4. Find the shortcut for Ctrl+Alt+C and disable it or reassign it to a different key combination.

Step 2: Reassign the Keyboard Shortcut in Word 365

    1. Open Microsoft Word.
    2. Click on File in the top-left corner and then select Options.
    3. In the Word Options window, click on Customize Ribbon.
    4. Under the "Customize the Ribbon and keyboard shortcuts" section, click the Customize button for "Keyboard shortcuts".
    5. In the Categories section, select the category that contains the command you want to assign the shortcut to.
    6. In the Commands section, select the specific command.
    7. In the Press new shortcut key box, press Ctrl+Alt+C.
    8. Click Assign and then Close.

    Step 3: Verify the Shortcut

    1. Test the shortcut in Word to ensure it now performs the desired function.

    Additional Tips

    • If the shortcut still does not work, you may need to restart your computer to ensure all changes take effect.

  3. Zoom Workplace keyboard shortcut overrides custom Word 365 shortcut

It's great to hear that your problem has been resolved! While the exact reason for the sudden resolution might be unclear, there are a few potential explanations and steps you can take in the future to handle similar issues. Here’s a detailed explanation and some additional tips for future reference:

    Possible Reasons for the Resolution

    1. System Update or Restart: Sometimes, a system update or a simple restart can resolve conflicts by resetting the state of applications and their settings.
    2. Background Process Termination: If a background process related to Zoom or another application was interfering with the shortcut, its termination could have freed up the shortcut.
    3. Temporary Glitch: Software can sometimes experience temporary glitches that resolve themselves without user intervention.

Future Steps to Resolve Keyboard Shortcut Conflicts

    1. Use Windows Settings to Override Shortcuts

Windows allows you to manage and override keyboard shortcuts:

    1. Open Settings and go to Devices.
    2. Select Typing and then Advanced keyboard settings.
    3. Use the Input language hotkeys to manage and override shortcuts.
    2. Check for Conflicts in Other Applications

Sometimes, other applications might be using the same shortcut:

    1. Close all applications and test the shortcut in Word.
    2. Open applications one by one to identify which one is causing the conflict.
Feel free to reach out if you need further assistance!
