    Latest Windows update (10.0.17763) causes some Windows apps to crash


    A number of my Windows apps are now not opening (well, as we all know, they open for a nano-second) and I have found the following to be common in the Windows System Log:


    Unable to start a DCOM Server: Garmin.GarminConnectMobile_3.24.1.0_x64__xpnz26pswwvpm!App.AppXarta1mjdvj4dnehn94vm16z5epqcregh.mca as Unavailable/Unavailable. The error:
    "0"
    Happened while starting this command:
    "C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\Garmin.GarminConnectMobile_3.24.1.0_x64__xpnz26pswwvpm\Garmin.Connect.Mobile.exe" -ServerName:App.AppX3qavys0vjksxwjp0sfbcbbt4v14xcf3y.mca


    and


    Unable to start a DCOM Server: 9020AusDeveloper.AuWeather_2.6.7.0_x64__15zh1pw5gsx7a!App as Unavailable/Unavailable. The error:
    "0"
    Happened while starting this command:

    These apps ran quite happily before this latest update - anyone else experiencing this and do we have any ideas on resolutions?

    Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

    Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

    • Open a new Explorer window.
    • Click View in the ribbon.
    • Click Options.
    • Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
    • Click OK

    Microsoft to make Windows 10 updates mandatory

    Well, at the moment at least, you can choose to defer upgrades. Under Settings > Windows Updates > Advanced options you need to check the box labeled "Defer upgrades". What does that do? Good question. The answer I've found might illuminate it to a degree.

    I hear this only applies to Pro and Enterprise editions. But I can't verify that.
