The latest update of Windows 11 has caused issues with the legacy Alt Tab behavior I've been using for many years, which I was able to retain by setting the AltTabSettings to 1 in the registry as described on this page...Enable Classic Alt+Tab Dialog in Windows 11But that is no longer working for me, after the latest update to Windows 11 that was applied on Nov 22, 2024. Now it just instantly switches apps on Alt Tab instead of bringing up the list of icons for the open apps. This has worked fine for me for as long as I can remember, maybe 7 years. how can I restore the legacy Atl Tab switcher?

    Paulo,

Thank you very much for your suggestions, I went to the link provided and tweaked my registry settings as listed below (as administrator) restarted my laptop however there was no change in the app switcher functionality.

    1. HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\ New > 32-bit DWORD "AltTabSettings" value data to 1 didn't do anything. Even after restaring New key word added as "AltTabSettings" value data to 1
    2. HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop
STRING (REG_SZ) value CoolSwitchRow the value data was already set to 3.

STRING (REG_SZ) value CoolSwitchColumns the value data was already set to 7.

Unfortunately, these steps did not return the legacy Atl+Tab Switcher, I am open to any recommendation. Hopefully there is a method that might work to be able to restore the legacy switcher.

Thank you very much for taking the time to help.

    Mikey

  3. Alt-Tab in Windows 10

The following process, worked for me.

...After trawling Google, I found a fix that has worked for me ever since and brought the Alt-Tab UI from Windows XP into Windows 10.

    • Open Registry Editor (Win+R followed by regedit)
    • Go to: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer
    • Create a new 32-bit DWORD value named AltTabSettings and set it to 1
    • Sign out and sign back in again (or restart)
    Thanks,
