It's for how the touchpad is connected to your PC I2C (ex: built-in to laptop) or PS/2 or SMBus.

If it's the wrong one, you'll usually just get an error, then will just need to install the other instead. *Smile

I've got a Samsung Q330 laptop - like you I wasn't sure which one to use, so tried the synSmbDrv.inf which worked a treat *Wink

As Brink says - if you try one and it's wrong, then use the other one....

I have a Sony Vaio vgn-sr190 laptop that I just did a clean install of Windows 10. Everything appears to work fine except for any scrolling. When installation completed, the touchpad was identified as the ps2. Scrolling would not work. I then uninstalled the driver and tried the smbus version, no difference. I did go into properties and disabled 2 finger scrolling which I never used before but also seemed to not work and enabled 1 finger scrolling but still no luck.

    any other ideas on this?
    thanks

After I did this manual instal Windows update wants to install a ps2 port version.. I notice that version doesn't. Have separate options for 1 vs 2 finger scrolling.

  6. I have the same laptop - and today forced the update using the method quoted earlier in this thread, and ignoring the dire warning about the possibility of it making the laptop unstable or not working - since Lenovo's drivers for this laptop are way way out of date - the main key to installing this newest driver was to uninstall the older driver (which required two consecutive reboots after uninstalling the old one (19.0.14) before then installing 19.0.19 - and then rebooting again. However it took me three hours to get it all to happen. However now that 19.0.19 is installed and comfirmed in the devices menus it does work well, and edge scrolling as well as right clicking to get a context menu works for the first time since I installed Windows 8.1 on this machine. Hope you can get yours to install and work too.

  7. The same 19.0.19 driver installed on a Lenovo S540 also works very well.

Hello everyone, I'm trying to help a friend of mine with his Windows 10 Acer laptop. To do that I need the drivers from Synaptics but when I try to download them from their website the connection takes too long and the browser fails to even begin the download. I even tried to download them from my smartphone with my 4G connection but I have the same issue. Could anybody of you upload the latest PS2-SMBus drivers somewhere? Thank you very much *Smile

  12. Hi,
I have a Lenovo Y580 laptop. I installed fresh Windows 10 Pro x64 a couple of weeks ago. I have tried to use this driver (19.0.19.1) but after each time I install it Windows 10 update keeps reverting the driver back to the earlier 19.0.9.5 version. I have also tried the official Microsoft troubleshooter tool to hide the Synaptics Driver in Windows Update but it did not work. It just keeps replacing it with the older version every time which is quite frustrating.
So at the moment I am on 19.0.9.5 and I am also experiencing the issue of some clicks not getting registered when I use the touchpad's clicking mechanism. (mentioned earlier in this thread)

If someone could help or suggest something I would highly appreciate it!
    Thank you!

I had similar issues with Win10 reverting to a 2006 driver... 19.0.19.1 refuses to install here on Acer 5750G either by pointing driver search to the download from device man or by clicking the direct setup in the download. Luckily? I have 16.2.10 saved and this Win8 driver not only installs but is functional in every aspect.

    16.2.10

I noticed 16.0.19.1installs in a split second, whereas the linked driver takes much longer and works. HTH someone.

  14. Thanks for the reply!
Do you experience any issues, anomalies or artifacts with the touchpad's clicking and pointing mechanism or does everything work flawlessly?
I am on 19.0.9.5 (Win10) and still having issues with touchpad clicks not getting registered plus also when I am using the scroll bar there are random dislocating cursor movements which prevents me to scroll properly. Needless to say, both of these are quite frustrating when I am using the touchpad.

P.S.: Are you also saying that Windows 10 Update does not try to use its own signed driver on your computer anymore and lets you use your own?

I downloaded as many drivers from Acer for this laptop as I could find and didn't manually update any just relying on Win10 to install newer versions. Even after clean installs I started with the same set of drivers...

When I found this thread I tried to install 16.0.19 but couldn't (see above). As I said it (the 2006 driver) worked perfectly otherwise.

You can only try see if it works for you.

I wouldn't be concerned with the fact it came from the Acer site... it was likely only made available as a service rather than include any specific Acer changes.
