Latest Synaptics Touchpad Driver for Windows 10

I'm still unable to install latest Synaptics Touchpad Driver for Windows 10
I have a Acer Aspire 7738G laptop which I upgraded from Win7 to Win10, the synaptics driver was still active after upgrade but Win10 does not allow to disable or update the driver.

If i delete the Synaptics driver, Win10 always installs a PS/2-compatible mouse driver after reboot.
I'm currently using Windows 10 Home (version 1511 build 10586.3)

    Any help welcome, thanks.

I've had exactly the same issue on my Samsung Q330 laptop, with the initial W7>W10 upgrade, and again with the W10-1511 upgrade.

I assume you've downloaded and are using the latest Synaptics 19.0.19.1 driver update?

If so, what you need to do is this...

    • Go into Device Manager, select Mouse and click update drivers, then select the following.
      • Browse My Computer
      • Let me pick from a list
      • Have disk button
      • select the folder with the new Synaptics drivers (in my case it was ..\WinWDF\x86)
      • select synSmbDrv.inf, and install
      • Reboot, then you will find the additional touchpad options from <WinKey+I> Mouse

    After updating from b. 10240 to 10586.3 ( W 10 x64), Windows installed an older version of Synaptics 19.0.15.2, before I had 19.0.19.1.
Also now, in Device Manager, it's listed under PS/2 Port touchpad, before it was SmBus.
Windows Update does no longer provide 19.0.19.1 driver, Why??
What are the recommended steps to get installed manually the latest Synaptics driver because with the currently installed driver, mouse scrolling does not work for Start menu - All apps, with 19.0.19.1 it used to work.
Also what is the name of the x64 .inf to use for update synSmbDrv.inf or SynPD.inf??
    Thank you.

I was able to get this driver working, there is just one annoyance. With this driver, the only way two finger click will work is if I first lift my finger off the track pad, then click by pressing with two fingers. If I navigate my pointer to something I wish to right click, then click down with two fingers without first lifting my pointer finger off the pad, it commands a left click, even though two fingers were used to click. This is very annoying, has anyone else experienced this? This was never an issue in Windows 8.

Also, the driver includes the ability to three finger swipe for forward/backward, however this interferes with the Windows 10 gesture of bringing up the recent apps. Going into mouse and touch pad settings in Windows 10, then going to additional options, there is no option to disable the Windows 10 gesture. It seems that HP has locked me out of changing this. Is there a registry edit that can be used to disable the left/right three finger swipe in Windows 10?

I would like to make an additional comment in regard to this driver. I have noticed that a high percentage of clicks go unregistered. I first thought that this was due to a hardware issue, but I have confirmed that the driver is to blame. About 2 out of 10 clicks I made resulted in no action and required me to click once again to get it to register. After uninstalling this driver and using the basic ps2 mouse driver, the issue disappeared. Also, after downgrading to Windows 8.1 and using the latest 8.1 driver, the issue is gone. I only noticed this behavior with the physical clicking mechanism of the touchpad. It became such an annoyance that I decided to downgrade to Windows 8.1 for this reason alone. I tried numerous other older versions of Synaptics drivers for Windows 10, and all of the exhibited the same behavior. I just wanted to mention this in case anyone else is experiencing these issues in Windows 10.

  11. I have an Alienware M14X R1 from 2011. Everything I've read on the Net says that Windows 7 is the optimal OS for my laptop, but I refuse to accept it. I've installed Windows 10 at least 5 times before on the laptop, both before and after its' release in July, and each and every time it has crashed despite my best efforts. I'm now convinced that it really all comes down to having the right drivers, I did a ton of research and found that many of the drivers Microsoft preinstalls in 10 are *REALLY* old (as old as 2006, in my case). Now I'm really determined to make 10 work and not get stuck in the past just because I have old hardware. My laptop isn't hopelessly out of date, I've read successful reports of PCs even older than mine (ones that were released when Vista was around) that run 10 just fine. I can still play the latest games like Fallout 4 and Grand Theft Auto V with decent performance, so I'm not dumping this laptop until it dies. So far I've taken excellent care of it.

Anyway, the Synaptics driver provided by Dell for my model is for 7. I installed it and it worked...............but it sometimes causes 10 to hang on a black screen after getting past the spinning white dots. It should go to the login screen, but sometimes just hangs up forever instead. I've done exhaustive testing and I'm now certain that the old Synaptics driver I'm trying to use is the issue.

I see 2 possible drivers I can use at Software Drivers | White Papers | Product Briefs | Videos | Synaptics. One is "Windows 10 PS/2 and SMBus Devices v19.0.19.1" and the other is "Windows 10 I2C Devices v19.0.19.1". I'm guessing I need the former driver rather than the latter, but I can't be sure. Which one should I use?

    Thanks!

  12. I feel you AnonVendetta.

I have a Lenovo IdeaPad Y510P and struggled for a long time to get W8 and later W8.1 to work stable on it. In retrospect I know it boiled down to the Synaptics driver, where installing the latest would cause Windows, even W10P, to BSOD or prompt for a "refresh" installation. Since then I have not dared to update these drivers, fearing just this issue might reoccur.

Maybe I will try this the last driver.... *sarc

  14. You mean the Preview build? That is hardly unexpected.... basically you install new OS, you can not expect it to keep the drivers, or can you?
