You are only half the way, theshowman.

Your command is the first step on the way:

$ openssl pkcs12 -in input.pfx -out out.txt

Now you need to convert out.txt back to PKCS#12 format:

$ openssl pkcs12 -export -in out.txt -inkey out.txt -out output.pfx

Unfortunately, Windows Phone 8.1 does NOT support S/MIME in general. Even though you are able to import your private key and certificate, you will not be able to decrypt the emails. Your phone will not be able to locate your certificate. I get an error message
telling me the that message cannot be decrypted because the decryption certificate is not found on the phone. If you happen to get in contact with Microsoft support, they should be able to confirm this.

If someone is able to find a way to tell the phone to use the imported keys and certificates, please let me know.

 

Installing a new Authority Certificate on E71

Very similar problem on my E71.

I transfered files to the phone's memory card via USB.



Installed personal certificate (pkcs12) without problems - just opened the file.



I have CA certificate in DER format (tried with suffix .der, .cer, .crt). When I try to install it I get error "Unable to open. File type not supported." If I try with the same cert in PEM format it opens as txt file and can't be installed either.



No clue yet.

Just on that front (despite the fact that the end result will still be a failure to get S/MIME to work), do I still need to take the out.txt, strip the CSP bag attribute, and then feed it back to openssol to create the pfx file?

Now, given that this is still going to be a failure since the EMail client still won't be able to find the certificate, why in hell is Microsoft claiming that the Email client is able to handle S/MIME encrypted emails?
