  3. Java(TM) Platform SE Binary won't show up.

    Hello Khanster,

Good to see you in Microsoft Community.

Firstly, could you let me know the specific system version? You can check it by pressing the Win key + R key, and typing "winver", then press Enter, please take a screenshot/photo of it, and only send the relevant information without PII in the next reply.

If you are unable to see the "Java(TM) Platform SE Binary" option when trying to open a file, it may indicate an issue with the Java installation on your system. Here are some steps you can try to resolve the problem:

    1. Verify Java installation:

Ensure that Java is installed correctly on your computer. You can check this by following these steps:

Open the Command Prompt (CMD), type the following command and press Enter:

This command will display the installed Java version. If Java is not installed or an older version is displayed, you may need to reinstall Java.
    2. Associate Java with .jar files:

If the issue persists and you are specifically trying to open .jar files (such as Forge for Minecraft), you can associate Java with .jar files manually by following these steps:
      1. Locate a .jar file on your system.
      2. Right-click the .jar file and select "Open with" followed by "Choose another app".
      3. In the "How do you want to open this file?" dialog, click on "More apps".
      4. Scroll down and click on "Look for another app on this PC".
      5. Navigate to the Java installation directory. The default location is usually "C:\Program Files\Java\" or "C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\". From there, select the "bin" folder. The two paths mentioned here are the installation paths for Java. If you customized that path during the installation, navigate to the corresponding path.
      6. Inside the "bin" folder, select the "javaw.exe" file.
      7. Check the box that says "Always use this app to open .jar files".
      8. Click "OK" to save the changes.

After performing these steps, you should be able to open .jar files using the "Java(TM) Platform SE Binary" option.

If anything is unclear, please do not hesitate to let me know.

    Best Regards,

  4. Java SE Binary wont show up as an opening option for opening Jar files

Cannot set Java to open .jar files by default

I have Windows 10 Home, on an HP Pavilion.

Anyway, today I downloaded a .jar file, and whenever I double-clicked on it, it would not open automatically. When right clicking on the .jar file and selecting "open with", "Java(TM) Platform SE binary" would not show up. Yes, I have Java installed
correctly on my computer. To make matters worse, I accidentally set .jar files to open automatically with Internet Explorer. Is there a way for me to find a Java folder on my computer that I could use to open this .jar file?

Obviously, I want to fix this problem so that I can open .jar files with Java, and Java only. The simplest and easiest solutions/help are greatly appreciated! Java SE Binary wont show up as an opening option for opening Jar files :)
