Windows 10: Issue forcing Windows 10 theme (with wallpaper slideshow) using GPO

Hello all,

I've been having a problem when attempting to apply a theme for new users in a computer lab setting. The GPO is set and points to the theme, however, new users are only greeted with the first wallpaper (of the 4 in the folder) and the shuffle option and 10 minute interval options set within the theme do not seem to activate. What I mean is, these two keys (shuffle and interval) are not being written to the registry for new users. Now, at this point, I could set a login script to write these keys as the theme is not doing so, but I wanted to see if any others have ran into this issue before.

Background Slideshow Not Working

As the topic says, background slide show does not seem to work.

I did an upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 10, initially it was working but when I switched to picture / solid color then back to slideshow the image would not switch at all.

If I keep it set to slideshow, after restarting, the wallpaper would just be filled a solid color with dots.

If I use the Windows 10 theme or the Flowers theme, slideshow works as it should.

Note1: Power options is set to allow slideshow on either battery or plugged in states.

Note2: I've tried deleting/renaming Transcoded Wallpaper, as well as slideshow.ini from %AppData%\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Themes but to no avail.

Rebooting shouldn't generally do anything: the wallpaper interfaces are real time.

Let's step back. Go to Settings :: Personalization :: Themes :: Theme control panel. Select the Windows 10 theme which has a built-In slideshow.

Does that get you slideshowing? You can tell if you're in slideshow mode because if you right-click on the desktop you will have the option "Next desktop background".

What's the value of "Wallpaper" under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop ?
