Windows 10: If USB tethering is enabled, why is there no internet connection?

I have a laptop connected to a phone, and I am using the phone as a hotspot via USB tethering. In the hardware connection settings the connection is shown as "enabled" and data is being sent and recieved, also the settings say that other devices can connect over a local network, but that there is no internet connection.

How do I connect to internet via bluetooth tethering?


I need to connect my laptop to the internet using my android phone. I've paired both devices and I've enabled bluetooth tethering on my phone. My phone is listed when I navigate from 'join a personal network' in bluetooth options in taskbar but I cannot connect using access point, only direct connection is listed as the option.

Up to the manufacturer? No. To be able to tether a phone a USB modem driver has to be installed as part of the USB cable driver. See a modem?



Safety of WiFi? It's pretty safe when your phone is creating the Wi/Fi connection.



Using the phone as a modem, USB tethering, is old technology. Using the phone to create a WiFi Hotspot for several devices is the new technology. Wouldn't want to tke a step back would we.

 

Windows does not update when connected to internet via usb tethering, although everything else is. Solution?

Here is what I am using:

Dell inspiron 7000 touch enabled laptop, x64, windows 10.
samsung tab E 9.6 inch
usb cable

After connecting the tab to the port via usb, I get the internet as soon as I check the enable usb tethering button. I can browse and download but cannot update the windows. It recognizes the connection in the information section but does not update the windows when I click update. I tried downloading the updates manually, which it successfully did, but the installation said the file was not compatible.

Any suggestions?
