Windows 10: if i changed my hwids with dmi edit hard disk etc, and i want to upgrade to win 11, will it...

I changed my hwids near the end of august, 2023. I was thinking of updating to windows 11 recently, but i've had problems with blue screens after changing my hwids. so i was scared if i did, my pc could just kind of.. brick itsself, anyway, am i safe to update to win 11 and change my hwids on win 11 or keep them after updating to win 11?

Gigabyte motherboard, pc won't bootup after recent hard drive change

Just wanted to update on what I did so far. The overall result is that nothing happened.

• Extended clear of CMOS (waited 6 hours after taking out batter), load optimised BIOS
• Disconnect all hard drives and all rams, except for one 2gb
• Reconnected CD, got a "Disk boot failure, insert system disk and press enter" message after the DMI Update Success message
• Added IDE, "Verifying DMI Pool Data"
• Disconnect IDE, added SATA "Verifying DMI Pool Data"
• Synchronised BIOS
• Connected DVD/CD to port 4, SATA hdd to port 0
• Set to AHCI controller and IDE Port 4/5
• Still hangs at "Verifying DMI Pool Data" -- waited 30 minutes here

These suggestions came from the gigabyte forums. If anyone has any ideas let me know.

So this is what worked, step by step.

Reboot

Drive is listed as E: in file explorer.

Drive not listed in Disk Management.

Insert DVD, it plays after short pause.

Disk management now shows Audio CD as E:

Right click, change letter to R: (while playing!)

Reboot.

Drive now shows as BD-RE drive as R: in File Explorer.

The bottom line is

- File Explorer does not provide for changing drive letter afics.

- Disk Management seems to need a disk to be in the drive for it to "see" the drive. I can't recall is this is Win 10 behaviour

I don't recall having any difficulty with this in Win 10 (its possible that the Win 10 default drive allocation was "after" my external drives; or I "just changed it").
