Windows 10: I need to recover an unsaved "snip" from 7 days ago, is this possible?

Hello! I took some screenshots 7 days ago using the snip tool. I cannot find those pictures now and pasting them is obviously not an option. Is there any way I can recover them? I already searched everywhere I could think of to check in finder including this PC, downloads, and pictures. I would really appreciate some advice ASAP. Thanks so much!

I'm sorry to hear that you lost your unsaved snips. I can try to help you with some possible solutions.

1. Check the Clipboard history: Press Windows key + V to see if your snips are still in the clipboard. If they are, you can paste them into another app and save them.

2. Check the TempState folder: Go to %LOCALAPPDATA%\\Packages\\Microsoft.ScreenSketch_8wekyb3d8bbwe\\TempState and see if you can find your snips there. If they are, you can copy them to another location and save them.

I hope these methods work for you and you can recover your snips. If not, I'm afraid there is no other way to get them back.

I agree that it would be better if Windows 10 could automatically save your unsaved snips when it updates, or at least warn you before restarting. Maybe this feature will be added in the future updates. For now, I suggest that you save your snips as soon as you capture them, or enable the Auto copy to clipboard option in the Snip & Sketch settings, so that you don't lose them again.

Recover unsaved snips

Hello:

I might have walked away for a while, when my notebook did an update I didn't expect while I had a number

of unsaved snips in the app. I do it all the time. I save a series of snips when I'm done with SAVE AS, one

after another, rather than save each at a time, interrupting my flow.

I've read a couple of solutions but, I don't understand them; too complicated, or impossible, or they didn't seem

to apply to my unique situation. It shouldn't have to be so hard. When the computer updates, I can recover

all the windows and tabs I had open by just clicking RESTORE. So, why doesn't the computer save anything

that's unsaved when it updates, or leaves a simple pathway to restore it? And I mean SIMPLE.

I remember back in the day, I had to be clicking SAVE in Word, every once in a while to avoid losing work if

the computer did a restart, but now it saves automatically without my intervention. So, I hope this nuisance

can be upgraded promptly with the advancements we have now. Thank you.
